My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Without a doubt, if I ever find myself in Sri Lanka again, Charming Dark Lodge will be my first choice for accommodation. This is such a beautiful homestay! The best part is definitely the sweet, kind, family who runs it. It’s really close to the beach & everything else is within walking distance. It’s in a quiet & peaceful area, so you won’t have any trouble sleeping if you’re a light sleeper. You have a beautiful garden to enjoy your breakfast in, there’s a laundry machine which you can use for a small amount & a fully equipped kitchen. If we hadn’t booked our next location before coming here we definitely would have extended our stay. Highly recommend it!

What an amazing & awesome time at THE RETREAT - WELIGAMA! Great place to relax and unwind in a classical villa atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery all around. Well curated property with traditional Sri Lankan antiquities combined with modern luxury. During our stay, we enjoyed taking a dip in the pool, strolling around the large garden area, reading books and playing games. Kids had a wonderful time too. It's a safe, super clean and comfortable set up for a perfect rejuvenation and relaxation... Situated in a strategic location (10 mins away from Weligama main town), the villa is the best hide out to completely forget the hustle and bustle of the city yet so close to all key attractions in the vicinity. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us, especially the two ladies, Inoka and Pradeepa ensured that we were comfortable and always greeted us with pleasant smiles. We had an absolutely wonderful time and would highly recommend the place without any hesitation. This is definitely a 'must try' place in southern coastal belt. From the breathtaking views to the impeccable service, every moment exceeded our expectations. Waking up to the mesmerizing view of the ocean and the surfers catching waves in the morning was a truly magical experience! The gentle sound of the waves crashing against the shore combined with the sight of skilled surfers gliding effortlessly across the water created an atmosphere of pure serenity and awe. It was a picture-perfect moment that captured the essence of coastal bliss. breakfast at the villa was an absolute highlight of our stay! morning brought a delightful culinary adventure, showcasing a diverse array of flavors and culinary traditions. Absolutely amazing stay on a beautiful lake area. The hosts were incredibly nice, provided us coconuts on arrival, fruits during our stay and made sure we can reach them anytime and answered all our questions. We could use the washing machines, the rooms were very big (3BR and 3 Bathrooms). We used the kitchen, the bbq to grill fish and cuddled a lot with the puppy Lanka who the previous owners left (dogs will hang around there but obviously you don't let them in). The hammock was a very nice bonus too. All in all we would all totally agree that we got an amazing value for what we paid and had the best days over there. I would recommend to get motorbikes to get around because PickMe will not always come there or its a high price.
