This has to be one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed. Looks striking as you arrive and see it on the lake but the minute we opened the door the smell was awful, there is a tank which collects the toilet deposits behind the hut and the bathroom absolutely stinks and it flows throughout the cabin. I had to leave once it got dark and went back in the morning. Nothing luxury about the cabin whatsoever, very basic. Furnishings in bedroom very dated . Dried residue in sugar canister . Garden chairs were sodden and mouldy, table was filthy and all the decking veranda was covered in bird poo. You couldn’t cast out properly for fishing due to a giant tree obstructing the area. It really does not justify the price at all.

Only a couple of nights which felt like a week away. Just superb in every way, comfortable, stunning surroundings. Slept like a log. To be greeted by the hosts dogs in the morning, which was a nice surprise. Having the heated private pool to ourselves was spectacular. A proper home from home.
We will definitely book again.

Cottages are perfect for travellers who enjoy feeling cosy and independent in the countryside. Usually small, traditionally built houses, cottages spread across one or two floors, making them great for families, or holidays with a little more privacy.
I’ve stayed at a few different cottages in the area whilst visiting family and this was my absolute favourite! It felt like a luxury holiday and will be sure to book again.
lovely old Inn with a stunning garden at the back. Olde Worlde en-suite room with lots of charming character. We enjoyed a Sunday roast and breakfast was exactly what we wanted. we had plenty of tea and coffee with fresh fruit, cereals and of course a full English breakfast. Smarden is quiet and very pretty - we enjoyed our stay very much. Parking is at the rear.
Staff were very attentive, and the food was great.
The room was well decorated, and the bed was super comfy. We spent the afternoon in the sunshine drinking cider in the well maintained and beautiful garden overlooking the pond.
In the evening, we ate a fabulous meal and had a lovely walk around the local area, which was full of chocolate box cottages, beautiful gardens, and a stunning church.
All this was then topped off by a very peaceful and undisturbed sleep.
Perfect.
