FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

Fantastic city but I would never again go there in the...

Fantastic city but I would never again go there in the summer, never, ever ever. My clothes were soaked in sweat, every day. Walking around the Mall was like being on a chain gang, absolutely awful. I honestly have not sweated that much since I went through basic training in Oklahoma in July of 1976. Our plan was to walk and bikeshare everywhere and that worked fine, except that I had not taken the extreme heat and humidity into consideration. By the time I got to our first museum every morning, I was wringing wet. That being said, DC is maybe the best city I've ever visited and I've been all over the US and western Europe. Very clean, very well policed, a tremendous number of things to see - most of them free, almost no homeless people, great neighborhoods, very accomodating to tourists and all the tourists are in one place - along the Mall - the rest of the city doesn't really have much in the way of tourists; easy to get around. Go when it's cooler.

Washington is a fabulous city with so much to see and do.

Washington is a fabulous city with so much to see and do. The travel network is excellent and the red Circulator bus is great for getting around all the Smithsonian museums and landmarks such as the Martin Luther King and the Lincoln Memorial. The museums and the zoo are all free to visit I just needed more time. Super impressed by all the trees and flower beds. I had lovely dim sum at Han’s Palace which is just beside the metro station for the Smithsonian Zoo and Adam’s Morgan. Had a very overpriced but nice afternoon tea at Willard Peacock Alley. There is a great diner near the metro station at the end of King Street called Bob and Edith’s Diner in Alexandria Old Town and in Georgetown check out Pinstripes for a great lunch.

Lot of walking. Security very good.

Lot of walking. Security very good. More expensive than previous trips. Room at Wash Plaza very small. People were nice but not helpful. I was given info on the price of the room including breakfast. Not true. Room charges much more than presented. Breakfast not included. Stated 0,6 miles from Catital Mall. More than a mile. Would not stay there again as was the opinion of my two traveling associates

Washington, D.C., is a fabulous city, rich in history. I love the monument. The city tells the story of America, and I loved the fact D.C. had so many great restaurants and sports venues to sample ... For travelers, please make sure to visit the Vietnam Memorial and the National Gallery.

The room was very spacious, king bed and many pillows were extremely comfy, kitchen area wonderful, and staff was kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The Foggy Bottom/Georgetown location was perfect. We were there for our dad's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery. The kitchen reduced our stress about meals and allowed us to choose which meals we'd eat out. State Plaza Hotel has beautiful art deco decor and is truly your BEST value in DC near the Mall.

The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to White House. The hotel is very well placed, a block away from the White house and other Washington attractions are very close as well (walking distance). The metro station is right below the hotel which makes it very convenient to commute in the city. The hotel staff at the reception was very helpful and polite and they offered me a complimentary upgrade. The hotel building is old but very clean.

This is an old dusty hotel but plenty of clean towels. clean beds, Shampoo soap etc. Fantastic location so cheap to stay. We spend most of our time out of the hotel so suited us just find. Enjoyed Washington. Harry bar reminds me of diners of the 1980 good for quick drink and burger. Staff very helpful at Harrys bar.

The location was convenient for where I needed to be. The price was the cheapest of the Marriotts in DC. I choose this location because it is close to where I was going. I stayed at the Marriott Marquis the time before this time I stayed in DC. the parking cost was $60 a night the room cost was over $100 more and the rooms were essentially the same. There was street parking near the Courtyard Marriot.

Very well located for sightseeing in Washington - all the main museums and monuments are within walking distance. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby. Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was a little dated (the hotel has a 70s vibe), but was clean and comfortable. Room had all the amenities you need, including fridge, and tea and coffee were replenished daily.

Such a comfortable place in a great location. My colleague and I stayed here for a conference in Walter E. Washington Center, and it was super convenient. There is a Giant grocery store less than 10 minute walk away, too. We've stayed at a different place before, but this one is much better and also cheaper! We will very gladly come back!

The unit is a big bedroom with a newish bathroom and a small living area off the kitchen. It is located in a working class neighborhood about 10 minute walk from a subway station. It saved me roughly $300 versus the next cheapest hotel room I could find since I didn't have a car.A
