    Lovely area.

Lovely area. Stayed at Island Sands Condo, which we HIGHLY recommend. Did the snorkel from a boat called The Malolo, which we also highly recommend! (Great crew, very focused on our safety, and made it fun) This is the home of the Aquarium, which is definitely worth a visit.

It is easy to stay in Maalaea, as it is mid-point between the south and west ends of the island. You can get to any town, beach or snorkel area easily. Airport is a short drive, as is the grocery market and stores such as Walmart and Target. We opted to not pack liquids on our flight and just went to Walmart for shampoo, soap etc. Safeway is a great grocery market, and be sure to sign up for their members club. It'll save you a pretty penny on food shopping. Ask at the check out. It's simple and signing up took $70 off a $300 grocery bill (yes, as you have heard, groceries are expensive in Hawaii). The Maalaea marina where many charters leave from is walking distance as is the local bus transfer stop. Restaurants and shops are located within the marina. We enjoyed the happy hour at Beach Bums - Their fish and chips are delicious!. Stop at Red Dirt Maui, and ask about how the Red Dirt Shirts became a thing. Boss Frogs offers rental snorkel gear. The Maui Dive Shop was a great SCUBA charter -with meals, snacks and gear included in the price! The Maui Aquarium is also at the harbor and was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and has a beautiful gift shop.
