Friendly savvy staff; large easy room with a very comfortable bed (nice cotton sheets). Fridge and microwave in the room. Everything felt clean and simple. And they let us charge our electric car on the outside socket - a huge relief as there was no public charging station in Independence.

A quiet small town in the heart of southern Appalachia - two traffic lights, lots of fresh air, central to lots of great hiking and camping. Don't miss Grayson Highlands park nearby with hiking the Appalachian Trail to the highest peak in Virginia, horse trails (bring your own horse) and wild ponies. There are a few OK restaurants in town and nearby, lots of history at the local museum. Also lots of local music (fiddles, banjos guitars, etc.) at festivals nearby and jam sessions - one weekly jam on Wednesday eves behind the old Courthouse in the center of town. Check out the concert schedule at nearby Blue Ridge Music Center.

Cute and quaint little town.
Cute and quaint little town. The only criticism I have is that EVERYTHING (stores, restaurants, gas stations) are closed around 9pm (which mainly was bad for me only because I didn’t arrive until after 10 PM)
