We recently spent two days in Custer, SD, and it was fantastic. Custer is a perfect base camp for taking in all the surrounding sites including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Custer St. Park wildlife loop, and the Custer St. Park Sylvan Lake area including Black Elk Peak-Little Devils Tower-Cathedral Spires hikes.

Initially, we had booked stay in various towns, but changed this and made Custer our main stay. This allowed us a central location, whilst we took days out to State Park, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis and other places, and saved us from packing/unpacking for the duration of our trip!

Great central location to Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Mt Rushmore. You can get a decent meal. It is not just burger restaurants. Custer State Park has incredible wildlife especially at dawn and dusk. It is as good as most National Parks. The Custer tourist area is the same as any of the others but the buffalo sculptures set it apart. There is also a farmer's market downtown.

Convenient access to the beautiful, Black Hills of South Dakota! A welcoming town with great shops and good restaurants. Next time w3e come, we want to rent quads to travel around the area, especially Needles Highway and Custer State Park Wilderness Drive!
A charming venue where to stay when visiting Mount Rushmore area. The property has many amenities for guests including sport facilities (basketball playground and two heated pools) a cafe where to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner and complimentary snacks. The staff is friendly and ready to assist customers for any need. It is located in a natural setting just a minute away from Custer main avenue where stores and restaurants are available. Mount Rushmore can be accessed in a 20min drive through a scenic route.
Everything was great at this hotel including the price!! The place was clean, comfortable and they served the best breakfast of all the hotels during our trip(which totaled 4 hotels in 4 days). They were also the cleanest hotel by far!! I’m glad they have additional fees if people smoke in the rooms. This made a huge difference! The staff was very friendly & helpful! I highly recommend this particular hotel. I wish they could all be like this!
Brenda& Don were warm & welcoming.
They were readily available to answer any questions we had.
The rooms were very comfortable& had decorations with the theme of the Rocket motel!
The rooms were spotless&
I loved the big bath towels which were soft!
The hot coffee& tea with half& half was appreciated in the morning.
Everything was perfect!
I would most definitely stay there again& highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Custer!
We recently stayed here on recent trip to Custer, SD and the surrounding area. The hotel seems to be a bit older, however our rooms were clean, the staff was helpful, and having a quick breakfast before we headed out each morning was nice. When you are only in your room to sleep, and spend the rest of your time enjoying the surrounding area, the location and price through booking.com couldn't be beat.
It was very nice, the receptionist was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty standard for mid-range hotels. Price wise, for those who are staying in the area for a few days, it's probably close to what you would expect to pay. The location is great, just a few miles from Jewel Cave National Monument and about in the middle of the Black Hills.
I liked the fact that I didn't have to share walls like a hotel. I was very comfortable and cozy. Seriously one of the best places I've stayed in a very long time. The cabin feel made me glad I spent the money to be there. I also really loved not having to buy dinner every night, making food there was a great addition to not staying in a hotel.
Great location for exploring all of the landmarks and sights in the area. Being able to walk to a selection of restaurants and bars near by after long days of hiking was priceless. Custer Wolf, Pizza Mill, Calamity Jane’s (coffee), and the Gold Pan Saloon were great. Very comfortable stay for our family of four plus a dog.
Location was fantastic! You could walk to most restaurants. It was a short drive to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, and Mt. Rushmore. The room was larger than expected. Bed and sofa were very comfortable. Robes were a plus. Having a closet, instead of a pantry, was very helpful. The outdoor area was lovely.
Nice selection available fo breakfast and we were able to take items to our room the day before so we could get an early start in the am. The bed was comfortable. The owner was very friendly. The location is convenient to Custer State Park and you can walk to area restaurants.
Although an older type motel it had everything we needed. The room was clean and the staff was really helpful. Custer was small quaint place that is well worth a visit and this motel was in keeping. Not modern but working and sufficient for us - good value for money.
The breakfast was very good with fried eggs, sausage patties, and biscuits and gravy. The location was great only a few minutes from Custer State park and half hour from Mt. Rushmore. The outdoor access was nice to unload our stuff.
Customer service was fantastic. The front desk people where very Professional and friendly. Definitely would recommend this hotel. When we come back that way we will definitely stay again
Nice cottages in Custer, near the main road for Mount Rushmore memorial and the Black Hills National Forest. Large room with all the comfort, good "take away" breakfast.
