This was a quick stopover, so we didn't get time to visit many of the sights in the area - a two night stop would have been better, so we could have spent a day exploring Canyon de Chelly National Monument.

Canyon de Chelly is one of the most beautiful canyons in the Southwest. It has a special quality to it that's hard to capture with words. I would call it transcendent. It doesn't attract the hordes of tourists that the Grand Canyon does, so you can really find a quiet place along the rims and feel one with Mother Earth and the ancient ones. A visit there is restorative.

Go and see the sights!
Go and see the sights! We have yet to take a guided tour but, we will on our next trip. The scenery is breathtaking, insightful and humbling. So many different locations to drive and explore on your own. I recommend the Thunderbird Lodge for food, although Junction is delicious, Thunderbird was the group favorite. Be respectful of the wonderful people who live and work here. It is beautiful but it will only stay that way if the visitors (like myself and fellow travelers) don't mess it up.

The Canyon de Chelly is absolutely stunning. Mesmerizing. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the history of the Navajo and it was an eye opening experience to learn what happened there. We hope to return when we can take a tour of the canyon floor. Not much going on restaurant wise in Chinle but the Basha's grocery store has a good selection.

I have been all over Arizona and I believe this area is THE most spectacular! The views, every where you look are breathtaking. So many old ruins to explore, caves to enter and history to learn. Visiting here is like a trip back in time, before people threw trash everywhere.

Canyon de Chelly is better than I expected, although many of the rim drive (north and south forks) were closed and the information available through the National Park Sevice in cooperation with the Navajo nation management was non-existent, never updated to reflect partial closures. That said, the property itself was almost devoid guests, and we rather enjoyed the privacy and quiet that a very lightly occupied property afforded. Chinle itself has little to offer, but the canyon itself is fascinating and invites much more exploration and time than our two day allotment allowed. This is off the beaten path, and hopefully will stay that way.
We were only able to stay and the Thunderbird Lodge for one night. We wished we had been there for 2 or 3 days. It is an oasis in the desert. Close to the canyon, surrounded by trees, quiet and relaxing. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. Everything worked well. The cafeteria was adequate for our needs. The location was perfect for visitng the area. We hope to return for a longer stay next time.
Right on the edge of Canyon de Chelly - location is perfect. There is a cafeteria open from 7 AM to about 9 PM where you can get breakfast lunch or dinner with some ready made cafeteria options and also some cook to order options. Prices are reasonable, service was very good and tours of the canyon leave right from the hotel so you can't beat the convenience.
The staff was friendly and welcoming and our room was very large, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. It also was great to be able to use the restaurant, which was open even on Easter Sunday. The hotel feels like it has some real heritage. Also, we appreciated being able to arrange for a guide to Canyon de Chelly at the very last minute.
much more authentic to the area than a standard Holiday Inn. The place was hosting a community graduation celebration in the courtyard with families and it was wonderful to see. Families enjoying each other and celebrating their children’s success. Very close to Canyon de Chelly Information Center and entrance to the National Park.
The location was perfect, near the mouth of Canyon de Chelly, where we had booked a tour. The adobe style buildings were beautiful, and had the nostalgic feel of an old style motel, yet with the modern amenities. So unique compared to the large corporate chain hotels.
This was located near the junction of North and South rim roads. We also drove the North and South Rims before our 4 hour afternoon tour with Thunderbird Tours. (great tour except for the 29 degree weather). Staff was friendly. The lodge seemed pleasantly quaint.
Good commutation between the hotel and the person how booked. Great shower with lovely water pressure. Breakfast options are available for additional costs in the restaurant. Good coffee. Great gift store too!
Convenient stop-over whilst visiting National Parks in the area. Room and bed comfortable, with table and two chairs. Shower good. Plenty of parking. Restaurant on site, but separate from hotel itself.
I thought we would have free breakfast like most holiday inns, dark restaurant. So we went to Denny's. Was hoping to have 3pm lunch at restaurant but closed so had to go down street.
Our room was quiet and comfortable, and the entire hotel operation was very professional. The guided tour of the canyon floor was fantastic - the highlight of our visit!
The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was very good. We ate there both days--great service too. The location was perfect for visiting the National Monument.
