Fern River Resort, hotel in Brookdale

Featuring access to the private River Beach, this Felton resort is 8 miles away from Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. A campfire and game areas are featured.

We loved the fact that the cabins had kitchens complete with pots and pans and dishes. The access to the river was amazing too. We liked having the firepit to use, and the game area, and that each cabin had their own bbq grill.

Dream Inn Santa Cruz, hotel in Brookdale

This beachfront hotel is located next to Santa Cruz’s famous boardwalk and steps from the city centre, making it an ideal destination for a weekend escape, corporate event, family holiday or romantic...

Location is great, very close to the beach. Would not recommend a room on the first floor though, the view is partly blocked. Everything’s clean.

Loved the food at the Brookdale cafe and grill.

Loved the food at the Brookdale cafe and grill. Need to tell guests at check in that there is daily room service if you request. We were unaware. Had to ask for fresh towels nightly. We fixed a squeaky bathroom door in room 116. And you need ventilation in the bathroom. Mold on ceiling of bathroom.

We did not stay in the area long enough to really explore.

We did not stay in the area long enough to really explore. We loved Bella Cafe in the neighboring town. There was also a nice grocery store with a large selection of organic produce. Also, Big Basin State Park was beautiful and worth the trip.

Absolutely enormous room in the heart of nature!

Absolutely enormous room in the heart of nature! We thoroughly enjoyed our one night here. We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the redwoods and the gorgeous lodge. There are renovations going on (that did not disturb us at all) to improve the facilities as there is currently no restaurant on site. But the local towns either side of the Brookdale lodge are only a couple of minutes drive away. There is a small supermarket on site which was handy. The staff were friendly and accommodating- gave us the number fo their favourite pizza place when we enquired about eating in as we were exhausted form exploring. A slightly later check out was no problem. Check out was a breeze- and we had breakfast in a lovely little town called Boulder Creek. Very quaint and lovely, just a 2 minute drive away. This place is perfect for a base if your are exploring Big Basin and want a super comfy, really clean, unbelievably spacious room to relax in.
