The Undiscovered Asian Capital
Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.
At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.
Of the wealth of Taipei museums, the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed ‘Road to Heaven’ for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.
Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.
Whether you fly into Songshan or Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, efficient public transport takes you to the Taipei hotels on Booking.com.

Only food, perhaps it's not suitable for someone like the healthy style because a majority of them are oily.

Several times during my short stay people went well out of their way to help me. One on occasion, an older lady who was getting her hair done in the salon where I got a hair cut left her chair walked me down the steps of the shop and out into the street and about 20 yards to an intersection to ensure I did not get lost and found my destination. Taipei Taiwanese during the days I spent there seemed to be a fine people, their city clean and safer than many US large cities. I don't think they will like mainland China coming in and taking over. I visited a couple of great temples and had great suppers.

The transportation and hotel bookings are excellent, and the food is reasonably cheap. Taiwan is generally clean but some areas have a sewer smell problem due to an old system. People are friendly and helpful. Nobody rejects you if you ask for the road direction. Taipei is modern, but smaller villages are old. The scooters pile up full on the pedestrian walk, and we have no way to walk around. By all means, it is a beautiful place to visit.

Where to start . .
Where to start . . Petrol scooters everywhere and the fumes are choking the city. It is impossible to use sidewalks for the scooters parked everywhere. The country has a huge mosquito plague and only one hotel we stayed at had a fly screen on the window - even with insect repellent expect to be covered in bites during your stay. Taiwan in general does not demonstrate environmental awareness, plastic and single use packaging is everywhere and ironically, you will struggle to find any garbage bins on the street, at bus stops, train stations or on malls. Eating choices usually involve businesses with poor food handling procedures - did not see one single salad in the 5 cities I visited. The quality of fruit is outstanding which may be associated with the number of temples across the country. I could not find maps or attraction brochures in English at any of the 5 hotels I stayed in or at 2 government information centres I visited. There is no discount shopping, only premium prices. Overall I found the locals to be quite racist and wilfully unfriendly. Taiwan is not ready to welcome international tourists, check back in 10 years to see if anything has improved.
Dandy Hotel - Tianjin Branch was a great place to stay during our time in Taipei. The location was great, and very nearby to the subway station. The breakfast was so delicious and changed everyday offering local foods.
The best part however, was the staff. Specifically Kim was an absolute pleasure and helped us so much during our stay. She went above and beyond with her recommendations, instructions and kindness. Everything was great, but if nothing else we would recommend staying here just for Kim!
Excellent location and provides parking space for customers. There’s a MRT station beside the property that you can easily to travel. The lobby is big and comfortable and the staff were very kind. We were luckily to have a room with the city views. The staying was cozy, and you can watch Netflix on TV. Besides, the sound-proofing is very nice, we didn’t hear any noises from other rooms nor the hallway. Breakfast provides different eggs meals, and we were enjoyed. Very awesome hotel.
One of the last “grand” hotels of the past! An epic hotel with history, modernized for a comfortable stay. A lot of nostalgia for me, as my grandparents and parents have fond memories of The Grand Hotel, Taipei. We wish we had time to take a guided tour of the hotel to learn more. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Every staff member was helpful and friendly. Close to The Palace Museum and within walking distance to Shilin Night Market.
The location is great, near ximen station & quite a walk to taipei main station, there's a bus stop near hotel too. The bed is really thick you can sleep well on it. There's staff til 12mid if you'll checkin late. There's a lot of food & cafes around the hostel. a lot of toilet & shower room is separate, though the toilet is outside but manageable. The common area is also good spot to chill. I like that the staff will show you around for their amenities.
Perfect location, just the opposite of Da'an Park. The hotel is 1-min walk to Da'an Park Station, Red line MRT (exit 1) and 3- min walk to exit 6 which has an elevator for those who have luggages. 20-min to Taipei Main Station by MRT. There is also a snack bar on the B1 floor which you can have snacks and drinks. 7-11 and PX mart are also nearby, 5-min walk. The room is spacious. Water pressure in both shower box and bath are very strong which I love it.
Yusense Hotel is right place to stay if you want to spend a few days away from overbusy Taipei downtown, this hotel is just in 15 min away from 101 by taxi and 25 min away from Shilin MRT by walking. Near by you can find an amazing parks, I strongly recommend to went both of them. During our long honeymoon holidays we've stayed there twice, everything was absolutely good, extremely friendly stuff helped to fix a small issues we faced.
Great location. Just opposite the Taipei Main station and connected by the underground. You can use the underground all the way to HSR, airport mrt train and mrt. Look for exit M6 and you will connect to Ceasar park B1, follow the row of japanese eateries and take the lift to Lobby 1 of the hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff speaks English and are helpful. Plenty of eateries and cafes in the underground.
The upscale decor and ambience inside the bldg, comfortable bedroom, nice jacuzzi tub although pressure from whirlpool is too weak.
Big park across street and various eating places make life easier.
MRT and buses right outside hotel
Nice hotel staff
Afternoon tea time. I missed most of it but they set a small tray of snacks in my room knowing I was out. That's thoughtful.
The family room is spacious.
Room and Bathroom are clean
Amenities like coffee, water, toothbrush, room slippers, towels, hair dryer, coffee station were provided.
Staff were very courteous and accomodating.
There are shops and restaurants below the hotel as well as the train station.
Our room had a balcony and you can see Taipei 101 from there. It was nice.
I like the location of the hotel very much. MRT, bus stops, and U-bike are all nearby, and the MRT station also connects with the Taoyuan Airport MRT, making it even more convenient to travel around town. PXmart and 7-Eleven are nearby and there are also places to eat near the hotel. Lastly, the New Taipei City Metropolitan Park is also across the street.
The hotel is situated in a peaceful area, next to a park. Right across a street is a big Carrefour supermarket. Skytrain station and Shilin Night Market are not too long a walk away. The staff was helpful giving us an extra blanket for a cold night and lending us umbrellas to use for several days. By Taipei standards, the price was very affordable.
Good value for money. Staff are all very nice and accommodating. Hotel is just an 8 minute walk from the airport mrt station and a 5 minute walk from Beimen station. There are many food options around the area. A riverside park with bike rentals and well-maintained bike path is also a few minutes walk away. Bonus: Free coffee at the hotel lobby.
Walking distance to:
Taipei Main Station
National Taiwan Museum

The location was very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, fast food and stores.
The hotel provides extra supplies at the 7th level (toiletries, bottled water). Good wifi connection.
Fantastic location - Walkable distance to Taipei Main Station; Has a major bus stop right outside the hotel; Super close to Ximending. Budget-friendly rooms (small but has all you need and it's kept pretty clean esp the toilet). Easy check-in and out process. Will definitely stay here again next time!
We have stayed in this hotel for more than 40 years. Kind of a holiday home.
One thing though, when we checked out, they claimed booking.com did not charge my c/d and I had to pay before we left. We haven't checked our bank statement yet as we are still on the road. Please verify and advise.
Grand Hyatt Taipei is a very big hotel, right next to 101, that is easily reachable through a covered passage. Nice comfy rooms and nice breakfast. Personal always very helpful and speaking all very good English.
I like the 1. park at the back; 2. the clean room; 3. the balcony view; 4. the Japanese style toilet; 5. the lounge with the books; 6. the hotel location; and 7. that breakfast was not overwhelming.
I had a wonderful experience at the Caesar Park Hotel Banqiao . Every staff member I encountered were delightful and eager to help! Thank you! Will recommend to my colleagues!
Room is big, hotel got a 7-11 inside which is a bonus, lobby is grand with the bullet lifts going up and down, a sight that memorize everyone (lots of people taking pictures)
