It was bigger than I thought it was.

It was bigger than I thought it was. Many temples further up in the mountains were definitely places to add to your list. I loved the views from the Mekong across to Laos, the markets in the town by the river, the night market by the station and of course all the temples were great to visit. I stayed at the Park and Pool resort which had great service, rooms and a nice pool.

My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way from Bangkok to Vientiane and we're glad we did. We took the day train because we wanted to see some of the countryside. We didn't have a plan for crossing the border and getting to Vientiane so we chose to stay over night in Nong Khai - just enough time before noon checkout the next day to have a leisurely dinner, walk along the river, and consult our hosts on the easiest way to get to Vientiane. That turned out to be a taxi to the bridge, a bus across the bridge and a taxi to our hotel in Vientiane. Couldn't have been easier.

Nong Khai was just a superb place to visit, alongside the fantastic Mekong river, great walking areas with good quality food, ideal for families, great markets that sell just about everything and the ambience of the place relaxed you straight away, we shall definitely be back !!

    Relaxed vibes.

Relaxed vibes. Several places serving great food and fun, busy energy on Walking Street when the market was on (with delicious food). Ease of access to Vientiane/Laos is great but it's worth staying in Nong Khai for a few days. It's also worth travelling a little further west along the Mekong for a very real experience of Mekong river life and villages.

Perfect tourist place with lots of interesting things to do.

Perfect tourist place with lots of interesting things to do. Quaint markets and river walks are highlights of our stay. We hired a car at Udon Thani airport and that was our big plus to explore things around Nongkhai. Some of the places are 30-50 km away so having your car is necessary.

Very artistic and warm the Silsopa Hos tel. Ten o'clock in the middle of the night, from Laos Vientiane entry gallery. This hotel is the most cost-effective and the highest and most environment within 20 kilometers. Other hotels are very expensive and far away. The owner's English is very good and quickly check in, bringing me back to the room to rest. The roommate is very high, and it will not give a little sound when you sleep at night, so that you can sleep peace of mind.

The location is amazing, right in front of Mekong River. The host, Pao, was wonderful and extremely resourceful. I got lots of tips travelling around. Thanks a lot! The guesthouse building is beautiful and the bed is comfortable. The whole area is so cozy and good for relaxing. The breakfast was also good and plenty of options. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to stay in Nong Khai.

Breakfast ok but coffee was poor quality. Didn’t really eat much. Staff in morning when leaving were more helpful than staff when we checked in at 6pm who were surly and lazy.Bed linen appeared clean and shower worked but to be honest hotel was not good value for money given price charged on booking .com. We wished we had not stayed and got across the bridge to Laos instead.

I just stayed at Pikul Apartment for a night but I really enjoyed my stay! It's in the city center and the owners are lovely and always available. They booked the tuk tuk for me to go to the train station and in the mean time we had a very nice conversation about architecture! (The owner's husband is an architect himself) Overall was a really nice stay!

Most comfortable bed i have slept on in Thailand. This is a great place if you have a vehicle. It is primarily a motel not a hotel. It is designed for people touring with a vehicle. It is about 3km from the town so if you have a car, bike a grab app or don't mind walking it will be great for you. Otherwise probably best to stay in town.

Charming guest-house on banks of Mekong River. In the nicest possible way, it's like stepping back in time here to those classic guest-houses I used to stay in when I first travelled around Thailand all those years ago. Full of character and probably the pick of the accommodation choices in Nong Khai.

Lovely owner couple, speak perfectly English. Rooms are spacious, biggest rooms I've stayed at so far in Thailand. Parking lots available, they arranged a scooter for me for a reasonable price. Stayed longer here than booked. Definitely book here again when I'm in Nong Khai.

A very nice clean Hotel in the middle of Nong Kai. Just blocks from walking street that is open on the week end. Great breakfast. Bed was comfortable and the shower was first rate. The staff attended to our every needs. Only down side is its a bit pricey for Thailand.

Nice area of town although far from the river which is the main attraction for Nong Khai. It is very close to the border checkpoint though so for weary travelers its a great place to overnight before heading into Laos.
