Having stopped here before I had no qualms about booking a one night stop with my wife. On arrival, having driven from Marvao, we realised her bag (credit cards, passport etc) had been left at a service area on the A23. We booked in and explained the situation to the reception staff. They were most helpful in phoning the service area and getting them to look for the bag, then once found getting the details for us of where to go and who to ask for. This would have been extremely difficult for us to have achieved. The Staff were fantastic.
Featuring unique views over the Serra da Estrela Nature Reserve, Hotel Onix offers spacious rooms. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and is situated 3 km from Viseu.

The room was very large and well-equipped, and the decor, although dated, had a certain charm. Had very tasty home-style dinner in the piano bar. Breakfast buffet was superb with extensive range of hot and cold items including bacon, cakes, pastries, cereals, cheese, ham, fresh juices. Staff were really helpful, including allowing us to have our breakfast before the official start time because we had to leave really early. Pool looked lovely, but unfortunately didn't have time to use.

A new hotel tastefully decorated and well organised. Lovely small swimming pool and outdoor area. We had a room with a good balcony at the back of the property. All of the staff were attentive and helpful.

Viseu is a very nice town, not too big so easy access to monuments etc. Heavy rain forced my wife & I to seek temporary shelter in a small cafe. The wine was 1 Euro for a “Kimi” pour (quite a large portion). We stayed until well after the rain stopped!

Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance of old charm and modern amenities. The cathedral area, for example, is within walking distance of a shopping mall, which is near the bus station. It seemed like there was a good cultural buzz as well, with several musical and film events taking place in the park and around town, indoors and out. The Casa Conselheiro Alfonso de Melo museum, right in city center, showcases---for free entry-- the writer's good-sized personal collection of Portuguese Post-Impressionist paintings, furniture, ceramic dish sets, and various other home objects d'arte. From there, a 15-minute walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of Old Town brings you to the cathedral and Nacional Museum Grāo Vasco, the gift shop of which offers a huge book selection, some in English and other languages. There are manors and gardens worth visiting outside the city as well, I understand, but they require some private transport.

Viseu, located in the heart of Portugal, is a beautiful city with very good restaurants and bars/pubs, wine is a must to experiment and taste.
The old town is perfect for walking and during the day we can also visit Fontelo Park.
It is near the Serra da Estrela the highest point of Portugal.

The recommended tags isn't letting me put WINE as a category for recommendation. Viseu is the centre of Portugal's best wine region. Not it's best known, but its best nonetheless. That's why we went. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming city, the good food, the cleanliness, the friendly people and the history, but we genuinely just went there for the wine, and we weren't disappointed.

It’s a really beautiful place, people are friendly.
It’s a really beautiful place, people are friendly. There are great day trips to be done eg Serra da Estrela, and in the summer river beaches and lakes to help pass the hot days. Not far away is the small village of Santar, worth visiting and have lunch at Paços dos Cunhas, where the set daily menu is excellent. Viseu is easy to get around on foot. There are some great places to Eat too. The linen museum is worth a visit, as are some local wineries - Quinta do Perdigão is a small winery run by José and Vanessa. Vanessa is English and an artist. You can taste wine and learn about the grapes.

The town seems nice enough, with a number of semi-interesting sights to see but the PARKING, what a nightmare. Way to many cars, way too few parking spots and parking lots. What happened to carpooling, riding the bus, a bicycle, save the environment, all that stuff. Not in Viseu. Everyone drives their own car apparently, some might drive two. Very frustrating place to try to navigate around.
Our stay at Viseu Ryokan could not have been better! It is a unique, serene experience, in a very clean, modern, small hotel, installed in a historic building. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and quick to respond with help. We took advantage of the spa experience and with rainy days it was a treat to take a sauna or schedule a massage, in between walks through the historic center of Viseu. Breakfast was delicious, and tea is readily available. We grew to feel at home at the hotel and in Viseu.
Friendly stuff. Very nice hotel in the process of refurbrishing. Our room had brand new bathroom, new bed but still few older furnitures (which we think will be replaced as well soon). There was still works going on, but as we were staying during weekend didn't experience any disturbance or noise. It will be finish to nice standards when finish. Can recomend. Everything was clean and the facilities were working. Free parking available. Good breakfast with variety of choices.
Beautifully renovated house in the old jewish quarter. Elegant antique interiors. We had our breakfast outside the kitchen on the third floor overlooking the roofs on the buildings around. The host was exceptionally nice and showed us around the newly renovated house, with the basement from the 15th century. Viseu is a beautiful city and worth visiting.
Throught this message, the 9 Frenchie bikers would like to thank you for your welcome and your sympathy. Our trip on the National Route 2 in Portugal for 5200kms was fantastic, full of images and unforgettable moments thanks to you.
Each stage was like the course, friendly and welcoming!!!!
One word comes to mind: THANK YOU SO MUCH

This hotel is really well located, a little dated but clean and well cared for. I was prepared for the noise of construction across the street so that didn't bother me. The breakfast was simple lovely (bread, fruit, ham, yogurt, granola, cereal) along with a nice coffee machine and juice. The front desk staff was really sweet and helpful.
One of the most hygienic places we have been to on our trip in Portugal. Very friendly staff (Andreia is fantastic). Further we had all the facilities we needed and the room was, as I have mentioned before, extremely neat and clean. The only downer was the location, it was not in the central area of Viseu, but still walkable.
The hotel is a bit old but well maintaned. The beds were very comfortable. The air conditioning in heating mode worked well. A buffet brekafast was included in the price so the overall price/value ratio is very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean. The hotel has its own parking lot.
Such a beautiful hotel! The staff was incredibly accommodating to our baby, the location was perfect in the city center, the Wi-Fi was fast, and breakfast was delicious. Wish we could have stayed longer! We will definitely book this hotel again for our next visit to Viseu.
An unusual place in that there are very well done sitting rooms sprinkled throughout.
The renovation was excellent of everything is freshly painted.
Viseu was an unexpected delight and there was a roof top bar (something we always look for) right across the street!
In our modern days, where everything tends to me much alike, this Hotel keeps the good style of the pre-massive-tourism and offers refined ambiance, classical furniture, and an old style that allows you to really relax, rest, and enjoy peace surrounded by good taste.
Comfortable clean room. Many English channels on the TV. Good water pressure. A balcony. An elevator. A bar in the hotel. But the best part was the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Thanks Teago!
Hotel with great refinement and comfort, although at first they gave me a room that was not clean and tidy, they quickly resolved this mistake and provided a clean, organized and comfortable room.
Great and easy communication, modern apartment a short walk from town and the bus station. Very cosy, well equipped and a fair price. One of the best apartment stays I’ve had in Portugal.
The rooms were spacious and the shared common area patios were great. The location was perfect for exploring Viseu and there were plenty of good restaurants and cafes nearby
The host is very nice, communicating and friendly. The room is clean, comfortable and warm. Hotel is in the center of the historical part of the city. I enjoyed my stay
The breakfast was very good but we didn't appreciate having to decide on arrival. The hotel has obviously been lovingly restored to a mostly high standard.
