Viseu is a very nice town, not too big so easy access to monuments etc. Heavy rain forced my wife & I to seek temporary shelter in a small cafe. The wine was 1 Euro for a “Kimi” pour (quite a large portion). We stayed until well after the rain stopped!

Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance of old charm and modern amenities. The cathedral area, for example, is within walking distance of a shopping mall, which is near the bus station. It seemed like there was a good cultural buzz as well, with several musical and film events taking place in the park and around town, indoors and out. The Casa Conselheiro Alfonso de Melo museum, right in city center, showcases---for free entry-- the writer's good-sized personal collection of Portuguese Post-Impressionist paintings, furniture, ceramic dish sets, and various other home objects d'arte. From there, a 15-minute walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of Old Town brings you to the cathedral and Nacional Museum Grāo Vasco, the gift shop of which offers a huge book selection, some in English and other languages. There are manors and gardens worth visiting outside the city as well, I understand, but they require some private transport.

Viseu, located in the heart of Portugal, is a beautiful city with very good restaurants and bars/pubs, wine is a must to experiment and taste.
The old town is perfect for walking and during the day we can also visit Fontelo Park.
It is near the Serra da Estrela the highest point of Portugal.

The recommended tags isn't letting me put WINE as a category for recommendation. Viseu is the centre of Portugal's best wine region. Not it's best known, but its best nonetheless. That's why we went. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming city, the good food, the cleanliness, the friendly people and the history, but we genuinely just went there for the wine, and we weren't disappointed.

It’s a really beautiful place, people are friendly.
It’s a really beautiful place, people are friendly. There are great day trips to be done eg Serra da Estrela, and in the summer river beaches and lakes to help pass the hot days. Not far away is the small village of Santar, worth visiting and have lunch at Paços dos Cunhas, where the set daily menu is excellent. Viseu is easy to get around on foot. There are some great places to Eat too. The linen museum is worth a visit, as are some local wineries - Quinta do Perdigão is a small winery run by José and Vanessa. Vanessa is English and an artist. You can taste wine and learn about the grapes.

The town seems nice enough, with a number of semi-interesting sights to see but the PARKING, what a nightmare. Way to many cars, way too few parking spots and parking lots. What happened to carpooling, riding the bus, a bicycle, save the environment, all that stuff. Not in Viseu. Everyone drives their own car apparently, some might drive two. Very frustrating place to try to navigate around.
Our stay at Viseu Ryokan could not have been better! It is a unique, serene experience, in a very clean, modern, small hotel, installed in a historic building. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and quick to respond with help. We took advantage of the spa experience and with rainy days it was a treat to take a sauna or schedule a massage, in between walks through the historic center of Viseu. Breakfast was delicious, and tea is readily available. We grew to feel at home at the hotel and in Viseu.
Very nice place, a beatiful restored farm! We stayed 5 nights in one of the warmest weeks ever (!) in July...a little bit too hot in the rooms at night, but it was OK.
Rooms with "hotel standard", very nice breakfast served at flexible time. Swimming pool in the garden, restaurant in the ground floor, and walking distance to the city centre. A perfect place to stay in Viseu!
Carolina and her family were social and very service minded.
Everything.
The dormitory was very comfortable: spacious room, comfortable bed, big lockers to put all your stuff, curtain for each bed, hangers available.
Cleanliness was impeccable everywhere.
A copious, healthy and balanced breakfast with a lot of choice (the best since the beginning of my trip in Portugal).
Access to the kitchen.
Antonio is a great host. Pleasant, available, very accommodating and helpful.
The best stay of all, on our trip to north Portugal. Dona Teresa, is a very welcoming host and showed us around the very interesting building. Everything is recently renovated in chic style and decorated witn antique furnitures. We had our breakfast outside the kitchen in the sun, overlooking the roofs of the houses around us in the old jewish quarter.
The hotel is in an excellent location and has ample parking. It's very grand looking and impressive. The pool area and garden are lovely.
Our room was great very comfortable and not a bad size. Breakfast was included in the price and was great. There was a lot of variety. There is also a nice bar area. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly
Very central location in the heart of Viseu, close to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, the famous monuments and so forth. Room was great, heating worked really nice. Decor was very original and charming. We also enjoyed having a very good yet affordable restaurant on the main floor. It is owned by the same person who owns Charme e Alegria.
Ivan is a wonderful host and goes out of his way to welcome guests personally. Quick and easy check in and out. Quirky and fun loft space with an adorable little kitchen right in the downtown of Viseu. Easy walk to the city's many attractions, parks, restaurants, markets and more!
A wonderful place to stay and visit the beautiful city of Viseu! Everything was perfect, highly recommend! The hotel is family run and they couldn’t have been friendlier! It only has 7 rooms so I hope whoever is reading this manages to find a room😉
The Hotel is really close to the center and the staff is always welcoming and dedicated. The prices are really low when considering the included breakfast and the amenities in the bedroom that, despite being old, are in excellent conditions.
The place is. Beautiful, and a great location close to Viseu and 1:30hr from porto... Receptionist was very good and new alot about the area.... Pool was fantastic to come back to after a hot day out... The wine is also very good.
Hotel Rubi was a great place for a one night stop over.
