The staff were fabulous. They made our stay in Coimbra so enjoyable. Adriana in particular is a gem. She advised us as to extra things to do and helped us in a myriad of ways. The cleaning was excellent. The building itself is very interesting and could be wonderful if renovated.

It was great being able to stay in a 98 year old hotel. It was like stepping back in time once inside the hotel. The furniture is dated but what stories they must tell from days gone by. The beds were comfortable and the room was very spacious. The included breakfast was amazing too. Reception staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Portugal’s medieval capital, and a pioneer of fado music alongside its modern counterpart Lisbon, Coimbra is a vibrant university city with a good helping of historic sights.
The university is the country’s oldest and its attractive buildings cover a small hill overlooking the Mondego River. The institution has an excellent science museum, the ornate Joanina Library, and one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens which contributes to the lush landscape.
The midweek nightlife in the city’s bars and restaurants is popular with students, while shopping options range from the stores of the CoimbraShopping complex to smaller boutiques on cobbled streets in the historic Baixa district.
The medieval centre houses the museum of Coimbran sculptor Machado de Castro and the Old Cathedral, begun under the reign of the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques. He is buried in Santa Cruz Monastery, while the tomb of a later queen – Elizabeth of Aragon – is in the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova. She founded this hilltop convent to replace flood-prone Santa Clara-a-Velha below. Between them is Portugal dos Pequenitos where Portugal’s main monuments are reproduced in miniature.
Nearby is Quinta das Lágrimas, a 19th-century mansion that is now a luxury hotel on Booking.com. Also available are cheap hostels and guest houses near the 2 main train stations.

Our accommodation had the perfect location; we walked everywhere. The nearby restaurants were serving great food. Our street had 2 nice restaurants that were frequented by locals, and the prices were very reasonable compared to the more touristy places.

Coimbra is a great city to visit and use as base to explore other locations in central Portugal. Make sure you wear comfy shoes, the cobbles streets and walking is often up steep hills. The library is worth viewing at the university, but make sure you book in advance or get there early, as they have limited tickets and time slots. The parks are beautiful along the river and worth taking the time to visit. If adventuring out, highly recommend Obidos and the Buddha Eden garden, as well as Aveiro and Costa Nova.

Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers.
Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers. Centro (old part of town) is very lovely and has a lot to see. Many small interesting roads and pathways to walk around and see beautiful buildings, historical churchs, shops, cafes...Restaurants are reasonably priced and there is a variety of different cuisines to accommodate everyone. We stayed one night, but could have easily stayed another night.

Five-minute walk from Coimbra A train station; online pix meant we knew exactly which building to look for.
This is a charming and old-fashioned hotel that antique-lovers should really enjoy; it's like being on the set of a 1920s or earlier movie, and has an old-fashioned wood-lined elevator, complete with folding bench. We loved the place, but ...
The one perturbing thing was the lack of in-room Wifi, but there are lots of comfortable spaces to connect on the main floor. For a couple of vacation days, though, this was not a big deal.

Coimbra was an unexpected pleasure to visit.
Coimbra was an unexpected pleasure to visit. We had great accommodation in an accessible (by car) area, but removed from the every day bustle. Interesting old town, enjoyable music/fado offerings, good walks along the river and excellent food were all recommended by our helpful and knowledgable host. Had trouble finding parking at first (it's not well signed IMO),
The location was perfect and having two bathrooms was a big convenience. The apartment had everything we could possibly need. Ismael, the host was absolutely the best out of all of our Portugal stays. He made sure that everything was satisfactory and checked on us during our stay. Ismael not only picked us up from the bus station upon our arrival, but took us on a tour of Coimbra before taking us to the apartment. He also drove us to the train station for our departure.
The location is amazing! Steps from the center and train station! Walkable! Safe (all of Portugal is safe)! Cafes and restaurants around! Clean room! Temperature control! Comfortable bed! Excellent WiFi! Strong hot shower! Good breakfast variety (fruits, pastries, eggs, yogurt, cereal, coffee, espresso, etc.)! Very friendly and helpful staff! Would definitely recommend and would stay here again when back in lovely Coimbra!
Large spacious room. King bed was firm like most other beds I found in Portugal. The hotel lobby had a large feel to it as well. There was a feel of a lot of open space. Good selection of gins st the bar. The staff was very helpful in getting a sense of location and recommendations to visit sites and areas. We were treated to an amazing chocolate treat upon arrival to our room. Well done chef!
Centrally located, thoughtfully decorated quaint studio that had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Easy to access with codes provided for the front doors and unit doors. Unit was clean, and the staff was very friendly. Coimbra is a must see, and as is the case with most of Portugal, very hilly. Bring flat, comfortable footwear! Thank you for a lovely stay at Sofia Studios!
We loved our stay at Entre Ruas. Excellent location right near the old town and university, however still lovely and quiet as the apartment has double windows. It was spacious and had everything we needed, including a washing machine with detergent, tea, coffee etc. Danielle and the team at Entre Ruas were so lovely and helpful, and the team at Hotel Oslo went above and beyond also.
Fantastic property at one of the most strategic locations in central Coimbra, close to the exceptional botanical garden, the University, the old city, modern shopping, etc. etc. Emblematic! Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, perfect rooms and facilities, hearty breakfast, ... in two words ... your home in Coimbra ... all in the best tradition of Portugal and Coimbra.
I wish I could rate this higher than 10. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay perfect. We were welcomed with cake and champagne, the rooms are beautiful, clean and comfortable! I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone staying in Coimbra. Even though it is a small hotel the staff makes you feel like a vip staying at a grand hotel.
Location is excellent as it is very close, walking distance to Coimbra A train station and Praça do Comércio where there's plenty of restaurants and shopping. Also within walking distance, about 15 - 20 minutes over the bridge to Portugal dos Pequenitos. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Great hotel value if you're not spending a lot of time in your room!
The location is great and the place is exceptional.
The building is an historical place, and very well renovated. Rooms are modern and very comfortable. The breakfast served in the garden is delicious and the big swimming pool is ideal to chill and relax. finally the staff is very welcoming and friendly. It’s the best hotel we’ve been to in Portugal.
One of the best places were I’ve stayed in Portugal. Everything isn’t just great, but GREAT! Location, view from the window and terrace, breakfast, bathroom, and even free Netflix on TV. On top of that, the service was of the highest standard, with the stuff being very eager to assist us, and give us very valuable information on the city!
Good location, close to restaurants, bars, the university and its famous library.
The breakfast was reach with fresh ingredients.
But above all, the staff was nice and helpful, giving us important information for our stay in Coimbra and helped us with questions and recommendations for the rest of our trip in Portugal.
Well, the pool and the gardens around the hotel are just perfect and the snack bar near the pool is great (the prices are just right, nothing too expensive). Breakfast and staff were nice (as expecting when you are in Portugal). This is a very kid friendly hotel and is great for a weekend off the city.
One of the nicest., homely properties we staying Portugal.
Property has an interesting history and this is tastefully respected in decor and presentation.
Everything was done to perfection, hosts could not be more helpful, staff top class and food, much of which was produced on-site, was lovely.
The property is situated just across the bridge from Coimbra, boasting a wonderful view of the city. It's a mere 3-minute walk from Portugal dos Pequenitos and conveniently located next to a large car parking area
Staff was wonderful and it was a clean hotel. It was located in a more residential part of town easy accessible from Coimbra train station (you have to get the train from Coimbra-B, but it’s a 5 minute ride).
