Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.

Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition. As a pilgrim, there were not so many places to stay, but I met some lovely people there. I loved walking along the river Minho, beautiful landscape, fascinating architecture. It's a quiet town that is located on the riverbank of Rio Minho and you can cross the river by ferry to Spain.

Caminha is a busy little town with all the usual shops and plenty of restaurants and bars The scenery over the river estuary to Spain is great. There are good transport links by train and bus and also a car ferry to Spain. Also easy access to sea and river beaches.

CAMINHA is a very attractive little town especially the old centre which has a lovely bustling square ! Many decent reasonably priced restaurants. There are lovely clean beaches & super views across the River Minho to Spain ! Ideally located for walking on the beautiful unspoilt Serra da Arga or along the coastline. Easy to nip across to Spain on the cheap ferry. Good train service to other interesting places.

A lovely and lively hotel and restaurant. The room was elegantly furnished and the bed was comfortable with an attention grabbing view of the estuary and Spain. The bathroom was similarly good with (very) hot water that didn't run out. We slept well. They provided us with a safe place to keep our bikes overnight, which not all places will do and the food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced - we paid €50 for two of us and were both very full - and they offered an excellent variety of wines. Obrigado.

The house is absolutely amazing, right in the centre of Caminha, 10 minutes walk from train station, which takes you to some lovely beaches & beautiful historic towns all within 30 minutes.. The house was spotlessly clean, lovely garden for a relaxing breakfast or a wine on the balcony over looking the quiet street.. if you like a walking or just getting out of porto or Lisbon, this place is for you.. I recommend the walk to the beach through the pine forest. The real portugal. Stay here you won't be disappointed.

The place is amazing for people who want peace and privacy. The view to the mountains is spectacular. There is nothing around on foot, but with a car have a couple nice restaurants. We tried vilar, muralha de caminha and baptista and all have nice food. I particurlarly liked baptista even that one is more expensive. Vila Nova Cerveira has exceptionally nice park with lots of activities for kids.

Located a few miles outside Caminha, this guest house is exquisite and the setting magical beside a refreshing river that is perfect for swimming. Huge shout out to Diana who was so helpful and attentive to all our needs! Highly recommend. While this slight distance from the city poses some challenges to back packers like us, the charm of the area was well work it.

Great little town and accommodations perfect for Camino pilgrims. Great breakfast and nice that they provided transportation to the little boat to take you over to Spain. A foot bath in the reception area was great for weary feet. Rooms were comfortable but host even better.
