Nice location but difficult access, especially that we had rain over our stay and could not really enjoy the view from the hotel. But staff and dinner were great.

The bad: The Booking.com description is very misleading. Toilets smell of faeces. There is no pool or anything like it, just an enclosed gravel parking lot. The heat pump doesn’t heat.
The walls of the structure are thin, like a shed. The neighbourhood had construction noises at 6:30am. There is no wi-fi. No TV.
There were no towels (because of covid said the owner). He said he’d bring some but did not. There is only one sheet on the bed, under you, so your skin touches the blanket. Price was high, but most places nearby were even higher. What was notable was how little you get for your money.
The description really must be changed, it is incorrect in so many ways.
The good: The room is big. The kitchen had pots and pans and cooking stove. Parking was inside the locked gated compound. There were two blankets. There were not too many roaches or mosquitoes.
Very close to trailheads. Cafe a 15 min walk uphill.

We really enjoyed our stay at Al Hamra Mountain View. The View is indeed breathtaking, the building cozy, our room was clean and the pleasant + courteous reception girl made our day.

We stayed in Old Al Hamra at the Al Bait Aljabal Hospitality Inn which was wonderful. Beautifully artistically decorated. The very helpful owner found a local guide for us Abdul Rahman Alabri to take us in his 4x4 to Jebel Shams to do the Balcony Walk. AbdulRachman was truly excellent with a lovely kind personality. Very informative. I would never have managed the Balcony Walk without him as, although a hill walker, I can experience a fear of heights. The Balcony Walk has big drops on it though you are never truly exposed. Being with a local guy who knew what he was doing gave me confidence. His cousin owns a lovely cafe Saef in amongst the palm trees in old Al Hamra. You really are away from the commercial side of tourism there. Al Hamra can act as a base for many other places in the mountains. Easy to get to Misfah for example

Traditional and very quite place in the middle of a small heritage village. Friendly and helpful staff. As a family of five, we had booked two rooms. One with bathroom, the other one had shared bathroom on the floor. All very clean and comfortable to use. Great old style Omani flair within the house. Definitely suitable for families and well located to have day trips around the area as there is plenty to see and all nearby. 24/7 access, however, check-in before 11pm recommended. We would have appreciated a breakfast included in our price.

Both Al Hamra and Misfat al Abriyeen are Not to be missed.
Both Al Hamra and Misfat al Abriyeen are Not to be missed.
Please consider that the property is not in Al Hamra but Misfat al Abriyeen. The 2 villages are near but totally different with totally different things to do and see (Al Hamra or THE Red is and old village on a plain with red mud houses. A traditional house, completely restored, built in the Yemeni style, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of traditional Oman. Misfat is only a few km away but on top of a gorge and wadi. The tour of the village through small alleys, winding stairs, pools of water and a working falaj system is mesmerising.
This was an unexpected surprise for me. I had to cancel the other hotel I had reserve and found this in the area I was expeting to spend the night around. It is a traditional mud brick inn, very authentic, well preserved and reconstructed. It is in the middle of nowhere, but the village itself is a good base to dicover many places around. The receptionist was quiet but very ncie, discreet and helpful. The room was very big, tall, comfy. Toilet was basic but had everything needed. Dinner and breakfast were good, probably too much food!
Old family home that was restored into a modern comfy and still very personal, small hotel. Extremely clean with a fantastic view from the rooftop terrace that everyone can use. Small swimming indoor pool that is also fun for the kids. But above all the outstanding hospitality and kindness of the host. We stayed several nights and it is well situated to reach Jebel Shams, Wadi Ghul, Misfat, Al Hamra itself (visit the museum and the palm gardens!), Jabrin Castle etc. Highly recommend this hotel!
Hamza was an absolutely incredible host for our stay in his hotel. We received great tips on where to go and when from him, and the home cooked dinner was one to remember.
The hotel itself has a fantastic vibe between how it is painted and decorated, and of course the terrace overlooking the palms and farmland. The room was a great size, outfit with a fridge and a comfortable bed. We were at ease and relaxed the entire time.
Al Hamra Horizons was a great stay towards the end of our trip in Oman. There was easy parking in front of the hotel, the rooms are spacious and clean, and all of our needs were easily accommodated. Our host, Ahmed, took time to sit with us at night engaging in conversation and sharing his beautiful culture. It was easy to get to Jebel Shams, Misfat, Nizwa and more from this location. I would definitely recommend it to friends!
Gorgeous, authentic Omani boutique hotel, with a home stay feel. The view from the rooms and breakfast terrace were gorgeous. Really nice to interact with other guests at dinner and breakfast. Shower and terrace would normally be shared between 2 rooms but fortunately we had it to ourselves.
An amazingly restored hotel made of unburnt bricks, said to be over 300 years old. The hotel has a modern medieval feel. The staff is friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner delicious and rich. A good base for excursions to the Grand Canyon of Arabia. I can only recommend the stay.
I don’t know where to start, the stay was just perfect.
The hotel is an authentic Omani architecture in the middle of the oasis field, the terrace is awesome for tea or reading a book. Hamza - the owner is a great host, very helpful and full with good vibes
Best stay in Oman
very clean, all equipments work perfectly, owner of hotel is very helpful, help me a lot with everything i need, beautiful rooms and spaces to talk to new friends, good rooftop view, peaceful absolutely, from this location you can easily to get a hitchhike to Misfat for free
We've stayed here several times, and we always enjoy ourselves. The owner continues to make small improvements around the property, and we love the fire pit and the fact that we can bring our dog. We look forward to our next trip!
The view has indeed amazing views! We really enjoyed our stay here.
It is important to note: You need a 4x4 car to get to the hotel. In our case, the hotel organized a pick-up which worked out very well.
This new traditional family hotel is very well located, facing a beautiful palm grove and fields, the staff (Hamza and his brother Ahmed) is very welcoming.
A wonderful dip into omani hospitality culture
Host was so friendly - we asked for a dinner recommendation and he insisted on driving us to the restaurant! It was nice to stay somewhere other than a hotel, this was more of a homestay experience.
Its an easy hostel that started beginning 2022 but already made good progress. Rooms are clean and the distance to the Jabal Shams hikes is small. Location wise it's pretty perfect.
Quaint and renovated hotel in old part of Al Hamra - easy to walk to see the beautiful old buildings. Comfortable beds and very clean bathroom with good hot water.
