The motel was on the main road but the rooms are set down the back so were very quiet. The motel is older but we expected that from reading reviews but it was very clean. It was comfortable with a small table and two chairs plus a couch. The king bed was very comfortable and cosy on a chilly night. The heat pump soon warmed up the room.

Great peaceful location. Beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Exactly as described. Would have liked longer, but we only had one night booked. Close to Hobbiton (20 mins drive). We plan to return for longer. Guest suite is wonderful. Tea, coffee, cereal. Juice and snacks left. Nice views and very relaxing, very clean and very comfortable.

Centrally located town of the North Island worth an overnight stop for lots of sightseeing spots nearby and good eateries. We recommend Hobbiton to anyone, even if you are not a fan of the movie series. It is a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. Also do not miss the unique Blue Spring in Putaruru.
The township of Matamata has many drinking and eating options for all budgets and some really nice places are reasonably priced.

We visited specifically to visit Hobbiton, this was a perfect stay for this purpose. We had a great meal at The Redoubt, although if eating on a Wednesday evening it helps if you enjoy Country and Western music. Pretty much everything was in walking distance. The area is really well looked after

Great place to unwind and just chill.
Great place to unwind and just chill. Handy to Rotorua and Tauranga too. If you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities but with all the essentials, Matamara is the place to be.

We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock.
We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock. It was just what it says. A beautifully appointed 3 bedroom house with room for family and friends right in the middle of a working dairy farm. We all enjoyed our stay. We visited the nearby Okoroire Hot Springs in Tirau close by. The are beautiful natural thermal pools in the bush. A must do.
Absolute gem of a place just on the outskirts of Matamata. If you want a quiet and comfortable stay when you are visiting the area I would 100% recommend it. The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. We didn't have a car and were offered lifts to the centre which was very much appreciated. The room itself is extremely homely, with a modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen area. To top it off you open the room doors onto a lovely pool and seating area.
Gerda & Twan’s place is amazing! we felt so comfortable there. It was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was wonderful! It is such a peaceful setting…waking up and seeing adorable goats grazing outside your window is just so special. And we were so happy we got to meet the sweet cats! We would absolutely stay here again if we are ever back in New Zealand and will recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you Gerda & Twan!!!
We really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful location of Jen and Dowie’s Airbnb. The story of how they built the house without nails is amazing and we appreciated the craftsmanship and how homey and comfortable the barn is. They are wonderful hosts and provide amazing food and conversation. We also really appreciated Jen making calls for us and recommending restaurants. We will hoped be able to go back to one of our favorite Airbnbs.
Glenn and Mark we’re so friendly and helpful with our travels in Matamata. Their charming farm and cottage was a lovely set up and preparation for our trip to Hobbiton. The breakfast was home made, and delicious! The room was so comfortable, they really thought of all the finishes from the port to the heated towel rack. Truly couldn’t fault it!
We had a lovely and relaxing stay at Housewithnonails! The rooms are spacious and cosy and our hosts were so welcoming and friendly. The house is a beautiful and unique place to stay and makes an excellent base to explore Matamata and the surrounding areas, or even just enjoy some down time on a busy trip. We would definitely stay here again!
We loved our stay at Broadway in Matamata! We probably only needed the apartment behind the house as it was just the two, I craved a full house to fill all the rooms. It was a lovely cosey stay after a big day at Hobbiton. Great town with lots to see and places to eat. Easy to access and great communication with staff.
The location worked very well for us. The hostess gave us some good recommendations for hikes nearby. This was a very good location for our visit to the Hobbiton Set nearby. The downtown is charming, and the hostess gave us great recommendations for places to dine out.
The location to the shops and restaurants was great. There was a kitchen we could use to make tea and coffee at breakfast. the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean. there was a fan provided in our room. Although the hotel wasn’t fancy, overall we were happy.
Comfortable room and bed. Hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Lovely to sit and chat with them on balcony. Gave very helpful recommendations on restaurants in the beautiful town of Matamata. Also close to Hobbiton Village which is a great experience
We LOVED everything about Matamata Lodge! Mark and Glenn’s attention to detail in every part of our stay was phenomenal. The lodging was perfectly appointed, the food was excellent and delicious, the environment was spectacular!
Extremely clean and tidy. Warm and comfortable great value for money. Staff are friendly and helpful and it's only a short to shops and restaurants.
Would most definitely recommend this awesome hotel.
We will be back again.
Hi Mia, thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality you showed us with the homemade bread and healthy, delicious breakfast. The place was superb!! We can't wait to return to New Zealand! Cheers, Poul, Karsten, and Holm
Everything. The friendliness of our host, the beauty of the garden, the goats' antics, the beautiful poplar trees, the stream near by.... the accommodation was really good... everything you needed was there. Thank you.
Super nice staff ready to help with everything. The pub of the hotel had great food and drinks. Great location in the center of Matamata and 10 minutes drive to Hobbiton.
Location was in Matamata. Washing machine (in the bathroom). Creative writing and lies (both Bookings and own website) created a false impression of what we were getting.
