    Nice historic town.

Nice historic town. It was a bit lacking in restaurant options. The Whistle Inn was the only descent food option. Two others had recently closed. One is scheduled to reopen, but it could use a third choice. Lumsden is well located to take you to several parts of Southland NZ. Staying here can be very convenient in getting to various destinations.

    Well!!!

Well!!! For a start I wouldn’t recommend the room we were in … although it was clean the beds weren’t properly made … up to hotel standard … the bed covers were Curtin’s … it’s ok backpackers & cyclists … the amenities were super clean … the door was hard to unlock with a key in the bedroom … you would have to be desperate to stay there …

Lumsden is a lovely town and I loved the 4 Square which is well stocked and Cafe Route 66 - delicious food and visited the Sunday market at the Lumsden Community Hall this visit and very impressed with the crafts and the friendly community. Enjoyed our stay. All facilities close by and within walking distances. The playground and the trains are the things are superb - very safe and enjoyable for my grandson.

Note that this place is just on the outskirts of Wanaka just 5 min from town center. No where near Lumsden. It is rural with mountain views but there is an industrial area over the boundary but quite over the week end.
