Motel was ready and clean, we are return visitors, location was close to the beach and could walk to the shopping area. Was at Hokitika for a running event which the location was perfect for. Would certainly be a return visitor to 252 Beachside Motels.

Breakfast was great. This is possibly the cleanest place we have stayed in! The room was immaculate with beautiful hand crafted bespoke furniture. Susan and Den are amazing hosts and meeting them was a highlight of our trip. They work hard to create the perfect stay for their guests. The location was quiet and pretty. The Woodstock Pub has fantastic meals. Should we ever return to the West Coast, this would be our go to accommodation and we will be recommending it to our friends, family and fellow travellers.
Set on a private estate, surrounded by native gardens and bird life, Woodland Glen Lodge B&B offers free WiFi and included breakfast.

The beach access, wild and rugged, easily accessible along the coast. If you into photography plenty of opportunities for great photos or painting. The kids loved the glow worms, it was not a big walk to view them - 20 meters of the roadside and free, you are able to make a donation at start of the trail for maintenance and upkeep of track, which would be wheelchair accessible. We went to the local picture theatre, seating and service very good. The glass blowing is amazing to watch, the kids and adults were quite intrigued. Shanty town was a great day trip, riding the train, learning early history of the coast - the best scones and coffee in the cafe, coming back to our base in Hokitika. If you are planning to dine in Hokitika then I would advise you book on arrival if you are spending a couple of days, if just overnight then google and book before you arrive, at evening dinner you are in competition with bus tours.

Nice town with some interesting information and artwork. Good location for visiting nearby places of interest, such as Ross (fantastic museum and hotel bar here) and the beautiful Lake Kaniere. Stayed only two nights, could have easily stayed four or five.

Hokitika is a welcoming town with a fascinating history set in a stunning landscape. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area - Lake Kaniere, the Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, the Treetops walk and the gold town of Ross.

Lovely quirky beach town.
Lovely quirky beach town. So many walks and adventures on your doorstep. Really central for exploring the West Coast. Free activities close by, loved the glow worm cave and chips while watching the sunset. Very chilled, cool place. We were very lucky it didn’t rain while we were there and we miraculously missed the sandflies. Make sure you take spray for sandflies! If you like long walks then this is the place to go for some spectacular scenery.

Hokitika is nice and central to activity up and down the west coast, and there are lots of things to see and do. We had dinner at Stumpers and initially we thought the prices seemed high, but the food portions were huge and so tasty I would definitely go back. We did the Glacier helicopter ride in Franz Josef and The Shantytown and Monteith Brewery in Greymouth. We also visited the gorge but that was all we had time for. Loads of walks and other sites to see we just didn't have time.

Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true.
Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true. There are lots of things to do. The beach is a major attraction with a long area to walk and good sunset views. The town has some lovely greenstone shops and artisans. I always buy something when I'm in Hokitika. There are short walks, Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere nearby.
For a multiple unit holiday home style property, the apartment was surprisingly spacious and comfortable, more akin to an apartment AirBnB. We appreciated the 3 bedrooms, which was a nice change from the 2 bed places we'd been staying on the rest of our tour, for about the same price. (However this might be just because Hokitika is less expensive). Our place had a great view off the veranda, very fast internet, and on the whole was a very relaxing place to be. We wished we'd stayed longer (we were just there one night).
Central, very very clean! It has been renovated. I was very surprised with the attention to details regarding the cleaning. We went for dinner downstairs at the restaurant/pub, it was a very busy night, being a Friday, didn't get much attention from the staff but one of the owners was watching and came to us minutes later apologizing with a free beer for my husband (I don't drink). The next night, was less busy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I recommend this hotel.
A piece of Hokitika history! The hotel had heaps of character, served great food and house brewed beer. We happened to stay on a two meal for the price of one Tuesday which was an added bonus. The unit was located separately from the actual pub building, was well appointed and clean. It's located in Woodstock a short drive from the Centre of Hokitika. Friendly host. Good value.
Excellent accommodation in an awesome location. Very comfortable, warm and clean
Considering it was level 2, all that could be done was done. Very obliging owners. Great to have the best showers.
Hokitika is a great holiday destination and The Shining Star is in a located handy to town, right on the beach and near the Glow Worm Dell.
We received exceptional customer service from the lady who greeted us in the evening and she made us feel comfortable during our stay. It was perfect for our preschoolers and would be so for primary aged kids too. I don't know about teenagers but I'm sure they would like it too. We would call the camping ground directly next time.
Great location for families, couples or individuals. They have lots of recreational activities like a full jungle gym, bounce pillow, foosball and ping pong tables as well as individual and communal cooking spaces and a rec room. The individual cabins have everything you need and are very private.
After a long few days of travel, the cottage was a lovely way to decompress. It had laundry facilities, which was an added bonus we didn't expect, lovely rooms, and was very central to Hokitika. Additionally, the hosts were very accommodating to our check in times. Recommend.
The rooms are fine for short stays. The hotel has a food menu but there are numerous restaurants and cafes in Hokitika too.
Street parking is plentiful and the place seems rather well set up for winter. The kitchenette is satisfactory
The property was clean and tidy with all the facilities that I would expect for a comfortable stay. The playground was perfect to keep the kids entertained whilst adults relaxed outside the cabins. Just a short walk to Hokitika town.
Biggest hotel in town. Close the the supermarket and beach. Room was pretty quiet and there was a lower pillow so I didn’t have to sleep on a bath towel! Stunning sunset view at the beach.
beautiful country property 2 minutes from Hokitika. Comfortable beds, large rooms with private ensuite.
Includes full breakfast which was a great way to start the day. Highly recommend.
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, fully equipped with all necessities and kitchen available for use. Good location as you will need to pass by upon to Lake Kaniere or Hokitika Gorge.
The hotel was very nice and clean as well as very nice rooms. The staff were amazing and accomadated me on very short notice. Would stay again if in Hokitika
