The river view, wharf view in the evening was gorgeous.
The river view, wharf view in the evening was gorgeous. The walkway and boardwalk are a desirable, peaceful place to walk. The beach was the highlight of our visit as well as the farmers market. We preferred the beautiful fresh food from the farmers market opposed to take aways and restaurants we've dined at previously. We ate at a variety of cafes, restaurants and take aways. Without naming them we'll definitely be buying fresh produce and using the BBQ provided at our motel or available at Midway beach to cook our own steak served with fresh local produce, including fine wine, bread and honey. It's easy to get around Gisborne, but be aware of hazardous drivers and pedestrians. On our next visit we will avoid over spending trying to source excitable and palatable cuisine including takeaways.

Full of character with many 19th c buildings still surviving. Lovely beaches east and west with excellent access. Strong Maori influence including Cook's landing interpretations. City easy to access, with outrageous parking charges made until midnight on Saturday night! With accommodation, restaurant, gifts, and fuel costs spent amounting to NZ$2000 over three nights of our stay... give us a break

There are better places to visit that are much less difficult to travel to than Gisborne, we went because we had never been before so it was good to see the place but wouldn’t go to the trouble to go back.
Roadworks from Napier to Gisborne were many with many stoppages. Long slow winding road. Gisborne to Whakatane however was a very pleasant very scenic drive starting off with Gisborne's horticulture then farmland then through a native forested river gorge. Gisborne's main retail strip looks great and is well laid out, the palm trees set it off so well on a sunny day. The famous Eastwoodhill Arboretum was a bit of a let down, it was a big reason we finally decided to add Gisborne to our trip however it didn’t live up to the online pictures and information we saw of it. Basically it’s just hilly farmland heavily planted out sporadically with various trees and riddled with many tracks colour coded but good luck trying to completely follow a particular track as some markers weren’t there at various intersections. It’s nice for a bit of a hilly tree walk but there is nothing particularly organised or grand about the plantings that looks anything like you see of tree plantings in various Botanical Gardens.

My first time visit to gisborne.
My first time visit to gisborne. Town centre is not big, but it was interesting. I enjoyed the botanical gardens and small museum during my visit. My visit was the middle of winter, but still enjoyable.

I found the Cook Landing Reserve to be underwhelming, It was disappointing in that there was not much about Captain Cook at the site, just gourds.
The Gisborne Museum was worth a visit.
The beaches would have been lovely if not for cyclone Hale.

The service is not good enough for one night stay...we ask for milk for cup of tea in the evening but the receptionist said, the housekeeper is going to bring for us...waiting for the evening no one is turned up even in the morning when we left...
Good breakfast with sufficient supplies. Great location very close to the city and most of the attractions/restaurants etc.
Very friendly hosts Herman and Nadene. Their recommendations helped us greatly to quickly jump on exploring attractions in Gisborne easily. We stayed 3 nights and feel could spend easily up to 4 to 5 nights in Gisborne as there are plenty of places to visit from good beaches, rivers, parks, walks, museum etc.
Everything. I work for Fire and Emergency so I have stayed in many hotels across NZ and even though I live in Gisborne, I dont mind staying a couple of nights a year in the best hotel in NZ in my opinion. Clean, tidy, friendly hosts, comfortable big bed, and most importantly the spa pool 👍 will definitely continue to book at least a couple of nights a year to treat my wife and I to a night out. Thank you very much 😊
I loved everything about Tudor park chalet. we ended up having mates join us in the chalet and there was so much space for us. everything in the place was all so clean the chalet exceeded our expectations we loved our stay in gisborne thanks to Art & Kim. perfect hosts. lovely place and great exceptional service!! definitely staying there again on our next stay in gisborne.
Have always booked at Captain Cook out of any motor lodge in Gisborne this place has been the go to for me and all my family that I have brought along on my journey to Gisborne and by far is the best place to stay the staff are so lovely here 💛💚💛 and is close to town and the beach ⛱️
I had such a wonderful visit to Gisborne, and the location of the Gisborne Dream family suite is fantastic! I hired a bicycle from nearby Cycle Gisborne and visited vineyards, wineries, the cidery, op shops, and beaches. I appreciated the eco-friendly cleaning products. The bed was
Location is excellent, the room was clean and had every thing you would expect in a motor lodge. A special shout out to Nina as I left my toilet- bag behind and she called to let me know in time for me to collect before I left Gisborne. Great customer service. So will be back!
Extremely comfortable place to stay. Bedroom, bathroom, living room and full kitchen. Alan and David are lovely hosts, and David provided delicious home-baked treats each day. Definitely felt "at home". Downtown Gisborne is a quick drive away, or a pleasant 15 minute walk.
The manager Scott was super friendly when we arrived, the room was clean, it had all the amenities we needed for our one night stay and the kids loved the spa bath. It was also a short drive to the city and Gisborne airport. ☺️
Very disappointed that there was a no refund policy. My circumstances changed and I had to leave a day earlier. Did nir like Gisborne - felt compromised in the town centre, felt unsafe and I'll probably never return
Easy to find on arrival in Gisborne, and very well furnished and equipped. Many little 'extras' such as a choice of cereals, chocolates, and a very unobtrusive but highly appreciated unit service during the stay.
This is a very nice waterfront hotel, kitchette was included and the place was modern and the staff are friendly and accomading, there is a pool and a lot of people fish from the close by river channel
So peaceful, clean and tidy. It was raining while we was there but it was still so special. Will definitely be staying there again next time we are in gisborne.
