The location was very good, near the railway station and town centre. The view from our window was beautiful (water + trees). The reception staff was friendly.

The gallon hotel was really lovely with the unique refurbishment of an old prison which gave the whole family something fun to talk about. We stayed here as my brother was getting married and the family stayed here there was nothing that wasn’t impossible for the hotel staff and they weee bet accomodating when my mums suitcase didn’t arrive and switching rooms due to health reasons. Very friendly and extremely accommodating. The walk across from the hotel with all the wildlife was a big thing for my 10 year old daughter too really refreshing x hotel room was clean nice and hr bed and pillows weee Comfy highly recommend

Bed was very comfy, location of hotel is great for access to the town but as its centrally located parking next to hotel is not possible. OK for us travelling on bikes. A good breakfast.

So the concept of an online checking, an online key and a staff less hotel seemed a tad odd at first, but in reality it works wonderfully well. The location is absolutely fantastic. You're smack dab in the middle of Alkmaar yet you're slightly off the beaten path so there's not too much noise at night. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are great.

We stayed one night and we very happy with our experience. I found it interesting reading about the history of the building. A previous public school. There are art deco elements to the building. The rooms have beautiful high ceilings and are spacious .rhe beds are very comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and genuine. The breakfast was good.

Super zentral in der Altstadt gelegen, Einrichtung aussergewöhnlich
Beautiful old centre of town. Lots of things to do (Cheese Museum, Stedelijk Museum, St. Laurenskerk, canals). Excellent train connection to Amsterdam. If we had had more time we would have rented a bike to see more of the surroundings and ride to the sea.

I enjoyed the market in the city centre when I arrived on Saturday. I visited multiple shops and bought several different cheeses. It also happened to be Open Monument Day and I wish I had scheduled some time to enjoy many of the old buildings in Alkmaar.
Instead of the Sri Lankan/Nepalese restaurant I visited during my previous stay, I decided to opt for a Japanese restaurant this time. No matter where you eat, you'll always have a delicious meal in the centre of Alkmaar.
Alkmaar is a great old Dutch town, with streets that are sometimes narrow. If you visit, I recommend parking your car and exploring the centre of town on foot.

Location. Easy to get around. Excellent restaurants, cafes and quaint shops. Amazing cheese market. I loved the cycling on specific paths. Cruising on the canal was a big bonus. 30 minutes drive from Schipol. Beautiful beaches nearby. Highly recommend Mamma Peppino restaurant

Alkmaar surprised me in many ways, a beautiful place, with lots to see and do. Great cafes, restaurants, local shops. The people are very kind, I highly recommend visiting, I will definitely come back more often. From Amsterdam central station you can take the Intercity train, which takes around 30 minutes. I recommend the 1840 Foodbar restaurant and the Anne&Max café, both excellent.

We were lucky during our stay Alkmaar celebrated the 450 Years Ontzet from the Spaniards. The festivities were awesome. Alkmaar was very central for us in the Netherlands. We visited the great St Laurent church, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Den Helder and walked the beautiful parks in Alkmaar.

A lovely alternative to Amsterdam - the water courses around the city give the place a very special feel. And the people are very helpful and friendly. If you get a chance to, dine at Herren van Sonoy, a restaurant just a short walk away from the Grand Hotel Alkmaar on Gedempte Nieuwesloot.

The apartment is in a great location, very central. Lots of bars/cafes and restaurants literally outside the front door. The apartment itself is great, everything you need. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Sharon met us at the apartment earlier than planned as we arrived into Alkmaar earlier than we thought which was great as we could drop of our stuff and go explore. We couldn't fault our stay and had a really great time. I would highly recommend this apartment and Alkmaar.
It is a modern furnished apartment very well presented and great central location. The facilities were superb and the toiletries were high end. There is a supermarket just over the road if you need anything. Though there is parking next to the supermarket the parking is much cheaper if you park next to the town hall only 200 m away. Alkmaar is a beautiful town surrounded by canals and it’s old medieval streets are a joy to walk down. It is also a great base to visit northern Holland.
We enjoyed our visit very . being a ble to appreciate our beautiful room with staying two nights. The kindness of the staff was exceptional. The only shortfall was not having a proper restaurant for our evening meal. We have tried it out but really feel the food is very poor. If your own high quality evening meals could be reinstated the hotel would be second t o none.
Great for a short stay in Alkmaar. Directly across the road and a ten minute walk into Alkmaar centre. Located on a quiet residential street, the hotel is basic but very clean and comfortable. Staff are brilliant.
I am coming back absolutely loved it. Location, Hotel, Journey to get there all made the stay more enjoyable. I was staying due to going to a Family Wedding.
