Nice old town with much untouched straits settlement architecture. In comparison, those in Singapore, Penang and Malacca have been preserved and updated. But you can still find original or close-to-original buildings in Ipoh. Food was great! Especially the street food. Notable must-try cuisine would be the Salted Chicken (may not be to everyone's liking), Stir Fired Bean Sprouts, Ipoh Hor Fun (a different league!) and Ipoh White Coffee (coffee with condensed milk). Worth visiting the cave temples (there are a few and they are not close to one another!) on the outskirts as the atmosphere is pleasing. Just googled 'Temple Caves in Ipoh'. If you have the time, go out of Ipoh to Kelly's Castle (a British style castle), the Tanjung Tulang Tin Dredge (a look into Ipoh's glorious past as a tin mining town) and Cameron Highlands (cooling & refreshing getaway from the hot tropical sun).

I love Ipoh because the food is great, the old town is easy and fun. I have friends there so it is different. I don't care for much of the rest but they are there if you want to do it. Make sure you have lots of space in your lugguage to buy your yummy snacks and gifts home.

This was only a short stop over for me.
This was only a short stop over for me. And it was mainly for food.
Had the Beggar's Chicken which was brilliant and the tau foo fah at Funny Mountain was brilliant. The one we usually went to (near Concubine Lane) was closed and we found this one at Funny Mountain. It was so good we went back the next day to have another go before leaving Ipoh.
Our morning breakfast was Dim Sum at Zhen Hi Hao which is brilliant. The atmosphere was great. It was not noisy like some of the other "so-called" popular ones. And the food is truly good. I highly recommend this place for Dim Sum.

However, knowing which restaurants and shops to eat can be challenging let along affordability.
There are good places for sightseeing but I would come to Ipoh just to relax. It is suitable for a staycation

The food was good but I don't think I want to dine in the tourist area as their pricing is more costly than K.L. Better eat in other local kopitiam or cafe. Got cheated dining at Cowan Chicken Keow teow soup. Even Dim sum is so so only.Getting around is walking distance when staying in Ipoh Downtown hotel. Strategy location. Highly recommended.
The common area was beautifully decorated christmas items but the ro ook m I booked the room was a little small n thought of changing a bigger room with same price but they r not flexible to offer me the changes n very fast the room was taken by orthers.. I would said is the price is a little expansive without breakfast n no facilities, just pay for room only. Is abt 5 to 10 min away to town must drive,quiet area. Fr town back to hotel must make a big round, this place is just behind ipoh YMCA.
Despite it categorised as budget hotel, but the service, amenities, cleanliness and space was superb as if in 4 or 5 star hotels. They even provide you a prayer mat for Muslims and iron set in the room which rarely offered by other budget hotels. Certainly I will book this hotel again if I'm going to Ipoh. Location wise, near to a lot of eateries even there's 3 restaurants just opposite the hotel, no need to drive around to search one. And Mydin Hypermart is also nearby, also walking distances.
The hotel was in a great location. It is only a few minutes walk to many eating places in the new town. There is an excellent food court at the back of the hotel for breakfast.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. They did everything they could to assist us.
The room was large and equipped with kettle, hairdryer and fridge. The bathroom was a good size. We stayed for 3 nights Everything was very comfortable and we felt very relaxed which enabled us to enjoy our time in Ipoh.
Overall was good, the staff n facilities... 2nd day, no electricity but the aircond only was working, informed hotel staff, without delay they arrange nxt room for us... N actual check-out was 12pm, due to rushing after convocation, again ask the staff did we can get a extra time for packed up, and the staff giving us extra 1hours, n it really made us happy to fresh-up before head-to seremban.... Thank you so much to travelland hotel staff for smoothing our journey 🤗👍.
The location, facilities and overall ambience were absolutely amazing. It truly took us to experience Bali in Malaysia, with the amazing surroundings and landscaping. Staff were very friendly, and very accommodating. Room facilities were all functional, with the surroundings being tranquil, and relaxing. Highly recommended to anyone going to Ipoh for a short getaway, with friends or family!
Room and toilet are clean and comfortable. They even prepared towels and toiletries in the room. They have iron which you need to ask and get it from the receptionist. Only 10 min walk to Ipoh Night Market (Uptown Ipoh). Many parking lots in front of the hotel. Overall a good value for the money.
This hotel is suitable for business people who just want a place to stay for the night. It is located next to the general hospital in Ipoh and there are a few good eating places within walking distance. This is my third time staying here. Breakfast is also good with plenty of choices.
The hotel is about 12 min away from Ipoh downtown. Very well maintained (the towel, bedsheet, toilets are clean and no stain). The pillow and bed are pretty comfortable too. Kudos to the staffs (they are very polite and demonstrate good hospitality/customer service). Easy parking too.
Stayed at many hotels around the world. Sojourn Ipoh is the cleanest one I have stayed in and I extremely love the minimalistic design and ambiance. To top it all, the spa atmosphere and free welcome drinks and massage made me so relaxed. I had the best sleep that night!
