I did not stay at Lakeview as when I arrived a woman told me it was closed for the off season. I reserved the apartment in November but they only tried to contact me the morning of my arrival as I was travelling to Mavrovo without success.
They did offer me an alternative apartment at "Mia's Favourite Hotel" by the lake with a free breakfast. However, at first there were no pots and pans for the kitchenette. A heated discussion took place and eventually some were brought from Lakeview. Then the doorlock had to be replaced. The ant problem was never resolved. All this took a couple of hours and a lot of patience. This alternative apartment was supposedly VIP.......... not exactly!!

The apartment was warm and has an amazing view across the lake. We loved sitting out on the balcony and watching the view. It's quiet, beds are comfortable. The apartment was very clean. And the host is lovely and friendly. The hosts live below the apartment and are available if you have any problems. We had no problems at all during our stay. A beautiful place to spend part of our trip!

Vrben is the gate toward the region of Gorna Reka - the most beautiful part of North Macedonia, abundant with opportunities for hiking, forest fruit picking, mushrooms picking, cycling, cross country biking, or just enjoying the calmness and serenity of the green and luscious sceneries around. It is also a great destination for winter sports and tourism as the skiing paths and trails are just a few kms away in neighbouring Mavrovo.

Vrben is a traditional old village a few kilometers uphill...
Vrben is a traditional old village a few kilometers uphill from Mavrovi Anovi, without any shops, restaurants or other facilities and there a no English speaking people. We went there for a short stay to go hiking. The national park Mavrovo shows a hiking trail from Vrben to the Korza peak, and there are also some red / white markers indicating this route, but when we wanted to leave the village for this trail uphill an old man stopped us, made clear to us that we absolutely could not go up there and pointed us in a different direction, which unfortunately led to nothing. There is a only short path that ends circa 100 meters after the starting point. This made our stay in Vrben unfortunately a little bit of a disappointment.
