Clove Villa is a boutique hotel and a special place with lovely and extremely helpful staff. On leaving, we wanted to visit the botanical gardens and then go straight to the train station. The problem was what to do with all our luggage in the meantime (there being no left luggage facility at the station). The Manager (most unfortunately I have mislaid his name) volunteered to take our luggage down to the station (a 15 minute drive) and meet us there! He then happily spent the next 20 minutes helping me find an ATM which worked.
There is a pleasant pool at the back of the hotel. We also played pool before an excellent dinner (and no corkage charge for my bottle of wine). Eating in really suited us as otherwise we would have to go into the city centre and I very much doubt we would have had as good a dinner.

Staff were great, friendly as I’ve found are most people in Sri Lanka. Rooms are acceptable, with terraces, which are nice. Property is up a steep grade and involves a lot of steps, so bear that in mind if mobility is an issue.

We had the most beautiful stay here for my husband’s birthday! The staff went above and beyond, giving us a room upgrade to a stunning bungalow that walks straight onto the pool, as well as a cake. The food was fantastic and every detail so lovely. We felt utterly spoilt. The landscape is very unusual with a mix of tea estate and fruit/ spice trees and from the moment we arrived I felt relaxed.
