Jaffna has always been a lovely place to visit. This time we went to Kayts and saw what was left of the old Fort as well as Hammond Hiel across the water. Went to Point Pedro as well...It was a pity that there was a postbox at the northern most point of Sri Lanka - but no postcards or stamps!!! Seeing flamingos and other migrants across from the causeway to Kayts was a bonus. Food is always great and we would recommend Lavin's for some excellent parathas and paper dosai.

Staying where I did you really needed your own transportation.
I tried unsuccessfully to rent a bike ,and was told by Click hire place they were booked out for a few days ,I wondered about this as I hardly saw any other tourists ,and other companies didn’t return calls . Fort was really disappointing compared to Galle ,and they charge admission ! Restaurants recommended by lonely planet good , but Mangos has closed ,the Malaya is very good ,as is Akshatai ,but avoid Green Grass ,it’s horrible ,I couldn’t imagine staying there !

Very different to Colombo and other suburbs, but Jaffna has its own unique vibe. Pretty laid back I would say. The locals are friendly, but communicating with them could be a little challenging unless you spoke Tamil.
Plenty of things to see and many different foods to try.

Its a quiet village with less population.
Its a quiet village with less population. Nice for a quiet getaway. Small and cosy town. Food is good and friendly people. Temples are good to visit too. The trip to Nainativu is unsafe. Boats were overloaded and I was afraid of a stampede because of the crowd. Other than that, everything else was a good experience for me.

Takes two days to travel around all the attractions, first day travel the east from Jaffna town with a rented vehicle which is much cheaper than the other areas. Other day travel nagadeepa and close by locations to Jaffna city.
It was a nice experience around there for the everyone, but must pre plan everything.
First of all, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and was homely. Secondly, the food was excellent and our family enjoyed all the dishes, specially the crab curry. Alcohol was not that great. My wife ordered a drink with Arack ( green in color). It was overly sweet and pretty much had no alcohol in the drink. Draft beer was great. Thirdly, the room design was excellent and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The hotel provided accommodation for my driver, for which I am thankful. I will definitely visit again.
Berty and his wife are charming hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their cooking is absolutely delicious - a delight to get enjoyed. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I had left my medicines in Colombo and Berty took me I to the pharmacy to have the replaced.
Their ho e is situated in a very quiet area and you wake to the sound of a variety of birds.
A very enjoyable and comfortable stay and I will definitely stay there again when I next return to Jaffna
First thing is the staff. They are very friendly. They have made us more helpful, safe, mind relaxing & supportive environment in the location. Also the location is much better we can have a quick walk to the town, Malayan cafe, Jaffna market, Bus stand and lot more. That’s really great. And also this property has AC and hot water facilities as well. For the cost this is really worthy choice.
Mathu and staff are very kind and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. It is a small boutique hotel with a very traditional design and decor. The atmosphere is delightful. The local area is interesting and people are very friendly. We went for a few walks. Highly recommended. Great tours are also offered :) The swimming pool is lovely and very welcoming after a busy day.
My room and the property were exceptionally clean. The bed was comfortable and there was sufficient lighting and power points.
The food at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. The beer was cold. Ahhhh!

Do yourself a favor when in Jaffna, stay at the Gatetrees Resort… and maybe discover how it got its name.
Miss. Iniyal, the manager, greeted me with a smile and made sure that I got what I actually wanted to get, I mean basically anything which does not necessarily have to be related to the hotel stay. She also was doing house-keeping where she made sure that the room was spotlessly clean. The boss of the place, Mr. Thilak was also kind and managed the place well.
Allen was a very kind, attentive, accommodating host!

This is a wonderful, simple but comfortable and clean place to stay in Jaffna. The breakfast is so delicious and above all, the staff and management are wonderful. Raj who manages the place is a great person, and unbelievably kind, attentive and hospitable. We recommend to anyone visiting Jaffna!
