Jaffna is highly recommendable if you like to see Sri Lanka in a less mainstream tourist way. There is a lot to see, very interesting history and lots of cultural and religious highlights. Go to Nagadeepa and Delft Islabd as well for a day.

Jaffna has always been a lovely place to visit. This time we went to Kayts and saw what was left of the old Fort as well as Hammond Hiel across the water. Went to Point Pedro as well...It was a pity that there was a postbox at the northern most point of Sri Lanka - but no postcards or stamps!!! Seeing flamingos and other migrants across from the causeway to Kayts was a bonus. Food is always great and we would recommend Lavin's for some excellent parathas and paper dosai.

Staying where I did you really needed your own transportation.
I tried unsuccessfully to rent a bike ,and was told by Click hire place they were booked out for a few days ,I wondered about this as I hardly saw any other tourists ,and other companies didn’t return calls . Fort was really disappointing compared to Galle ,and they charge admission ! Restaurants recommended by lonely planet good , but Mangos has closed ,the Malaya is very good ,as is Akshatai ,but avoid Green Grass ,it’s horrible ,I couldn’t imagine staying there !

Very different to Colombo and other suburbs, but Jaffna has its own unique vibe. Pretty laid back I would say. The locals are friendly, but communicating with them could be a little challenging unless you spoke Tamil.
Plenty of things to see and many different foods to try.

Its a quiet village with less population. Nice for a quiet getaway. Small and cosy town. Food is good and friendly people. Temples are good to visit too. The trip to Nainativu is unsafe. Boats were overloaded and I was afraid of a stampede because of the crowd. Other than that, everything else was a good experience for me.

Takes two days to travel around all the attractions, first day travel the east from Jaffna town with a rented vehicle which is much cheaper than the other areas. Other day travel nagadeepa and close by locations to Jaffna city.
It was a nice experience around there for the everyone, but must pre plan everything.
My room and the property were exceptionally clean. The bed was comfortable and there was sufficient lighting and power points.
The food at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. The beer was cold. Ahhhh!

Do yourself a favor when in Jaffna, stay at the Gatetrees Resort… and maybe discover how it got its name.
Everything the hospitality, friendly staff smiley face's and the willingness to assist me anytime few names I want to mention jenny at the reception was extremely helpful, jeya house keeping was very good. And the food was fantastic I tried the jaffna crab curry so delicious hats off to chef kumar and assistant cook..very warm welcoming hotel to stay
I had a great stay at Tony's. His place is clean and he is incredibly welcoming. He gave me plenty of advice of how to spend my 5 days in and around Jaffna. I loved the city and would recommend staying at Tony's if you're looking for a clean and friendly hostel with great breakfast. Oh, and if you like a Golden Retriever, Sophie is a gorgeous dog!
The hotel was a cool relief from the heat of Jaffna. The restaurant served great food, one of the best breakfasts we had in Sti Lanka. The pool (while a little warm) was a nice way to cool down. The room was a great size and very clean and comfortable. Wifi in the hotel was strong. Very close to train station

Breakfast was a very good Sri Lankan breakfast, but they will cater for western tastes.
The staff prepared unripe mangos from their tree.... you eat them with a little salt... skin aswell, a really thoughtful treat.
Excellent budget option! large room with air conditioning and hot water, a desk for work, excellent internet 30/50 megabits. There are public spaces for eating and a shared balcony where you can relax. Complimentary tea and kettle, as well as a water cooler.
Haron was a great host and helped with all my activities in Jaffna. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Haron provided a tasty breakfast and it was plentiful. Arranged transportation at very reasonable price and with good drivers.
