Jaffna is highly recommendable if you like to see Sri Lanka in a less mainstream tourist way. There is a lot to see, very interesting history and lots of cultural and religious highlights. Go to Nagadeepa and Delft Islabd as well for a day.

Jaffna has always been a lovely place to visit. This time we went to Kayts and saw what was left of the old Fort as well as Hammond Hiel across the water. Went to Point Pedro as well...It was a pity that there was a postbox at the northern most point of Sri Lanka - but no postcards or stamps!!! Seeing flamingos and other migrants across from the causeway to Kayts was a bonus. Food is always great and we would recommend Lavin's for some excellent parathas and paper dosai.

Staying where I did you really needed your own transportation.
I tried unsuccessfully to rent a bike ,and was told by Click hire place they were booked out for a few days ,I wondered about this as I hardly saw any other tourists ,and other companies didn’t return calls . Fort was really disappointing compared to Galle ,and they charge admission ! Restaurants recommended by lonely planet good , but Mangos has closed ,the Malaya is very good ,as is Akshatai ,but avoid Green Grass ,it’s horrible ,I couldn’t imagine staying there !

Very different to Colombo and other suburbs, but Jaffna has its own unique vibe. Pretty laid back I would say. The locals are friendly, but communicating with them could be a little challenging unless you spoke Tamil.
Plenty of things to see and many different foods to try.

Its a quiet village with less population.
Its a quiet village with less population. Nice for a quiet getaway. Small and cosy town. Food is good and friendly people. Temples are good to visit too. The trip to Nainativu is unsafe. Boats were overloaded and I was afraid of a stampede because of the crowd. Other than that, everything else was a good experience for me.

Takes two days to travel around all the attractions, first day travel the east from Jaffna town with a rented vehicle which is much cheaper than the other areas. Other day travel nagadeepa and close by locations to Jaffna city.
It was a nice experience around there for the everyone, but must pre plan everything.
First of all, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and was homely. Secondly, the food was excellent and our family enjoyed all the dishes, specially the crab curry. Alcohol was not that great. My wife ordered a drink with Arack ( green in color). It was overly sweet and pretty much had no alcohol in the drink. Draft beer was great. Thirdly, the room design was excellent and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The hotel provided accommodation for my driver, for which I am thankful. I will definitely visit again.
We recently stayed at the PJ Hotel for three days and had an excellent experience. The staff went above and beyond to assist us, making our stay incredibly pleasant. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable environment to relax in. While we didn't get a chance to try the hotel's food, as Jaffna has some fantastic restaurants that we chose to explore, we are definitely looking forward to trying the hotel’s cuisine next time. Overall, a great place to stay with exceptional service.
The location of the hotel is very eco friendly, away from the town area free from noise and pollution. Home made food were provided on request as per our request. Mr. Suren was very friendly and readily available at any time. He recommended a tuk tuk Mr. Siva, he is well experienced tour guide and knows every corner of Jaffna. We were very happy that he took us to many historical places. Moreover with regard to the accommodation if they could provide a small TV, a mini fridge and hot water facility.
The hotel is very new (only a few months I think) and there weren't many (or any?) other guests when I stayed, so it was very quiet. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the food was tasty and the kitchen was open whenever I wanted to eat or drink something. The location was amazing, I was walking everywhere in town from there and it is very convenient for both the bus station and the train station. Would absolutely stay here again if (when!) I come back to Jaffna.
The hotel had a generator which was so lucky at this moment in time in Sri Lanka. My stay was very comfortable for this reason. The staff were very kind and friendly. The room was clean and spacious and everything worked well. The bed was really comfortable. The hotel opposite is very luxurious too, the staff were kind enough to show me the roof terrace which has a lovely view of Jaffna!
The location is great, right next to the train station and the food served at the hotel restaurant is one of the tastiest in Jaffna. We got a free upgrade to a deluxe room, so that was great as well.
The room was quite big and spacious and with a balcony.
The swimming pool was nice and pleasant to use, and not crowded at all.
They even let us check-out one hour later.
We had a wonderful time at Thambu Illam! A beautiful boutique hotel in a convenient location in Jaffna. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves and the staff were very accommodating, and Mathu even reached out to us ahead of arrival to arrange pickup from the train station which was really appreciated! The food was great and we also enjoyed using the pool :)
Room was okay but need some update to maintain the standard of the hotel. Air condition was not working properly it was set to 17C and you can not adjust. Also hot water issue as well some time hot water coming and some time not. Also cleness of the hotel was not good enough Iincluding the bed spread and pillow cases
The staff was incredibly friendly, and the rooms and bathrooms were super clean. Everything, from the hot water shower to the TV and air conditioning, worked perfectly. The management was very flexible, and I'd totally recommend this hotel to anyone—it's a great value for the money!
Mr. Dilan is an amazing host. Amazing people. Always greet you with a smile and so welcoming. Dilan arranged us a tuktuk at a very reasonable price to travel around Jaffna. Calm and quiet place. No disturbance at all. Will visit there again for sure.
The staff was friendly and the rooms and bathrooms were really clean. They were also helpful in arranging our trip on the second day. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone since it provides a good value for the money you would spend there.
