HOTEL THE FLAG Shinsaibashi, hotel in Osaka

3-star accommodation, HOTEL THE FLAG Shinsaibashi is located in central Osaka, 600 metres from Dotonbori River and the Ebisu Tower Ferris Wheel, 700 metres from popular music and shopping district...

The rooms are quite large and we had enough space for our 2 large suitcases. The beds were very comfy and the A/C was great. The bathroom was fine, with a Japanese smart toilet and a huge shower that was more than big enough to fit 2 people without sticking to each other. There are even 2 showerheads that can be used simultaneously for 2 people to wash at the same time. There is a water dispenser in the lounge floor with both room temperature and cold water taps. The elevator automatically selects your room's floor when you put your room keycard to the reader. The location is great - it's located a 2-minute walk away from Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street, a 5-minute walk away from Shinsaibashi station, and roughly 10 minutes from Dotonbori. There are plenty of bars and restaurants around and even across the road from the hotel.

This place was an acid trip. We don't have children, but when we arrived we could tell it was a family with little kids hotel. However, the venue and hotel rooms were very comfortable and nice to stay in. Happy to see rules for little kids and parents to be mindful of other guests and be quiet and respectful. The breakfast was an awesome selection of food. The staff were very lovely, helpful and presentable.

FAQs about hotels in Osaka

A Stronghold of Japanese Culture

At the meeting point of river and sea, huge Osaka combines forward-thinking development and sure-footed tradition. This is symbolised in its temple-like, 16th century castle, guarded by ramparts and enlivened by vibrant spring cherry blossom. Dominating the surrounding skyline is Osaka Business Park, a reminder of the city’s strong role in the Japanese economy.

However, the most striking skyscraper is the Umeda Sky Building - 2 towers connected by a rooftop terrace offering far-reaching views. The nearby Osaka and Umeda train stations are linked by underground shopping centres, while the shops of Shinsaibashi’s America Village appeal to a younger crowd. Dōtonbori’s neon lights promote more shops, as well as restaurants considered the best in Osaka. In a city touted as Japan’s culinary capital, that’s quite an accolade.

The Tsūtenkaku tower overlooks Tennōji Park, home of the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. Another nearby park houses Shitennō-ji, one of Japan’s oldest Buddhist temples.

The Kyocera Dome Osaka is a shrine of baseball, and more thrills are at waterfront Universal Studios Japan, the country’s 2nd largest theme park. Also by the sea is Kansai International Airport, on its own artificial island.

The capsule hotel was invented in Osaka, and alongside this type of accommodation, Booking.com also offers luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels and traditional ryokans.

So easy to get around Osaka, everyone is so friendly & helpful. No problems getting train/metro tickets at the stations as there is an English page on all the machines where you purchase your train/metro tickets & very easy to use. Favourite places that we visited: Kyoto, Osaka Castle, Shitenno-ji-Temple, Sumiyoshi, Dotonbori canal to name but a few

For a first time visitor to Japan, I am glad I chose Osaka, rather than Tokyo. Whilst we did visit Tokyo, it was too large and very busy with an extremely complex underground/railway network. We stayed in two locations during our holiday. The first being appartments designed for short stay tourists. The second was a holiday home which worked out cheaper and was much more spacious. If you are travelling with a family I can highly recommend the second option. Whilst it was not centrally located, the area (Imaichi) was quiet and clearly was not used to tourists in that area (this was a good thing!) There was a more friendly atmosphere - and homely feel about the area. Central Osaka was easier to navigate than Tokyo with fewer underground lines. Wether you wanted to stay in a city envronment or visit more rural areas such as Nara or the northern beaches of Tottori (Higashihama - 100m from the station!) - It could all be done with a cheaper JR Area Pass (rather than the more expensive all Japan JR Rail Pass). Kyoto and Lake Biwa was stunning. With easy access westwards towards Himeji, Fukuyama and Hiroshima, Osaka is a much more all rounded experience of Japan. I would say self catering accommodation is the way to go. The food availalble from convenience stores and the local markets is freshly prepared, restaurant quality and ready to eat. I am amazed if the local population actually properly cook for themselves at all! I could not get over the size of the apples (huge)! Try the strawberry and cream sandwich - go on - do it!

Osaka has a lot to offer: short day trips to lovely cities (Kyoto, Kobe, Nara), nice sightseeing in walkable distances, huge shopping areas and a lot of activities to book! The botanical garden has a Lightshow you don‘t wanna miss (but of course not always). Tip: go and slide down the tower of Tsutenkaku- I loved it!! (1000 Yen) The metro is easy to use and you could also book (electrical) bike vis Luup (app).

Loved our 5 nights stay here! Location was good and close to the Osaka Metro train lines. There are some delicious hidden food places in walking distance. We made good use of the coin laundry self service and also the ice machine. The supermarket, family mart and 7Eleven downstairs were very handy too. We would highly recommend this hotel. Great service and we also rented (free of charge) a Japan to Australia power plug. *Note that this is based on availability. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay here again if back in Osaka.

Great location located near Shin-Osaka Station, very convenient for travel to locations like Kyoto or for Shinkansen. Short walk to other lines for about 20-30 min ride to Namba/Osaka Station (for Den Den Town or Dottonbori) or to Nara. My 2nd APA hotel during my first trip to Japan, seems like a reliable hotel chain. There is a vending machine for milk right outside the onsen on the 2nd floor. The TV in the room also had casting and free VODs. There are also quite a few familymart convenience stores and other restaurants nearby.

I didn't have breakfast much as I was up and about earlier than 6:30 for most of the days there. However, the location was great - easy access to Shin-Osaka train station in a 5 minute walk on the Midosuji Subway line, which lets you get to key train stations like Namba and Umeda within the city centre for attractions like Dotonbori and the Umeda Sky Building. Shin-Osaka train station is also well-positioned for the JR lines across Japan, allowing for day trips to places like Kyoto and Hiroshima.

Amazing location, just a few minutes walk to Nippombashi station and 7-10 minutes walk to Namba station and Dotonburi. Good common area to relax with some drinks. Really good laundry room with 4 washers and dryers for 100 yen each. The room itself seemed slightly bigger than other hotels we looked at (as in we could actually open our luggage on the floor, don't get me wrong it's still Osaka-sized). Staff are super friendly. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Osaka.

Like most APA hotels, this one is well situated, 1 stop away from Shinsaibashi, two stops away from Namba Stn (Dotonbori), hence it was easy to navigate various places. It was a perfect base for my Osaka itinerary. Take exit 18 and it will lead u straight to the 1st floor/reception of the hotel, or the 2nd floor (Family Mart). 7-11 is just on the corner (accessible via exit 9) and this hotel is also fronting Semba Center, would definitely stay here again in the future.

Close also to Shinsekai (walking distance), Namba/Dotonbori (2 trains stops). I wanted to stay in Dontonburi, and the hotel was perfect for that; it is close to all of the attractions there. It is within reasonable walking to a subway/rail line for easy access to other parts of Osaka. The breakfast was incredible too. It was a Japanese-style breakfast with some Western elements. Good options for food near-by (both for eating out and supermarket - there is a big 24/7 supermarket (not convenience store) very close by). Good value for money. Staffed reception. Nice lobby area with water and tea facilities.

Place was very clean and roomy. It had cooking facilities, fridge, washing machine and more room than most hotels in Japan. It was literally two minutes walk from the train station and only one stop to the Main Osaka station. I stayed in lots of hotels over my holiday in Japan, but this was the best.

This is my third time staying at Nico Hotel and it has always been exactly as what I expect it to be. Rooms are spacious as compared to the standard rooms you get in Japan. It is the perfect choice for groups or families traveling to Osaka.

Loved this hotel!! Near the heart of Osaka and near a metro and JR station. Accommodations were excellent and having access to an in room washer and dryer was priceless during our long weeks long trip to Japan.

Superb location just off Dotonbori in the heart of Osaka. The room was very spacious (especially compared to other hotels we stayed at in Japan) and comfortable.
