Lovely property with attentive service. Both dinner and breakfast were fresh and tasty. My room (corner room) had incredible views; the MUJI design and furnishings gave a homey feel, everything was very clean and comfortable

TSUMUYA, hotel in Naoshima

Kuni-san and Akkie-san were incredible hosts! They went above and beyond to make our stay as smooth as possible, meeting us to pick up and drop off our luggage at the port when we arrived and left, and making a restaurant reservation for us in advance at their favourite spot. Could not recommend a stay at Tsumuya more!

The location was a short walk from the main ferry terminal on Naoshima. The cabins were self-contained, and had everything we needed. Being able to hire ebikes on site was a bonus. The staff were very helpful.

Everything! The best aspect of the trip was the wonderful experience of staying in Masako Bandai's lovely house and experiencing her extraordinary hospitality. She is the kindest, most generous person we have met in Japan. We really loved walking around Naoshima island and visiting so many extraordinary galleries and museums. We were perfectly positioned in our accommodation to explore the Art House Project in particular, with some galleries only minutes walk away. Our wonderful hosts collected us from the ferry and returned us there on departure and also offered to bring us to various places of interest.

Loved teshima art museum, chichu and the art house projects. Great coffee to be had at mikazikishoten and hifumiyo. The bath house is delightful. Dinner at Perma was amazing and a highlight of my whole Japan trip.

I love everything about Naoshima, this was my 3rd visit there! The town bus makes it very easy to get around. It is getting more popular/busy so it can be necessary to book museum tickets, restaurants and even bikes in advance. A lot of things are closed on a Monday, so plan around that ( a good day to visit other islands). The 24 hour laundromat was a godsend! The nearby islands of Teshima and Inujima are beautiful also 😊

    AMAZING + STUNNING !!

AMAZING + STUNNING !! Be sure to double check all activities and timetable of expositions in advance: it can change seasonally and over the time, depending on performances on show !! Be sure to book in advance the special night visits are usually scheduled few times (possibly only one) per week !! Don't plan to stay one night only, it's minimum two and 3 is better, time is priceless when at Naoshima !! Don't forget to rent an eclectic-bike, busses are available and very useful during the day but cannot reach every single locations. Just book and enjoy it !!

It was peaceful and not crowded, even during cherry blossom season. The galleries were wonderful and you could spend 4 of 5 days relaxing, sight seeing, visiting port towns, galleries and the other islands. After a hectic tour of Japan, these last few days of our trip here was a welcome wind down. Very easy to get around the island using the town bus snd the free art shuttle bus. We had cheap but cute accommodation st the seaside park close to more expensive Benesse House accommodation and were able to have a buffet breakfast at Benesse which gave us a touch of luxury. As food options are limited make sure you book if you want a sit down meal though as we were caught out and had to walk 15 mins to another little town for dinner one night. Luckily it was a great meal and gorgeous walk.

The location and quiet were most welcome.

The location and quiet were most welcome. Our host Marc was extremely patient and helpful, with the best advice given to rent a car as my handicapped husband would have struggled up and down the slopes of Naoshima. It was such a joy to drive around the island at our own time and target, and then to come back to a wonderfully warm and beautiful home. Indeed, just like home! Would be great for a multi-tier family - there’s so much room!

The city is for those who really want to see art and architecture. The experience is wonderful. Things only open between 10am and 4pm. Outside of these hours, it is an empty city, everything closed and no people.
