Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village, hotel in Kusatsu

Boasting indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths, 4 swimming pools and saunas, Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village features various activities on site.

Well the old-fashioned hotel from another century is worth the trip! You will find yourself in a Miyazaki storyline. Our room was quite spacious and well furnished. The hotel has few entertaining areas like bowling, crane machines, onsen and a pool (charged), closing pretty early. They also have a cafe and restaurants. The staff speaks English. The plus: a free shuttle bus will stop at the bus terminal to and from the hotel. A convenient store (Lawson) is located around the hotel.

breakfast was so so,nothing to highlight. The location of the hotel is vary good…the building has aged,so is the facility. I went in the big bathroom…so disappointed that I walked out. For the price that I paid for…I don’t see the value.

Yorokobinoyado Takamatsu, hotel in Kusatsu

Located in the Kusatsu hot-spring area and a 10-minute walk from Kusatsu Bus Terminal, Yorokobinoyado Takamatsu offers simple Japanese-style rooms and various indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths.

The location is great, nearby the bus station, nearby the main center of the town, just walking distance from public onsens. The staff was really nice, despite not being able to talk in English, Google translate helped, and we got the message across well. They were very kind in helping me with the delivery of my luggage to other city. They offer that service, and was fantastic. I stayed in a traditional tatami room. The room itself was very pretty, and a traditional feel. Mine was en-suite with a toilet, not a bath, as I wanted to enjoy the public onsen that the hotel offers. Unfortunately, because I have tattoos I was not allowed to go into the hotel onsen facilities, in which was very disappointing as the local town onsens do accept tattoos, I went outside to be able to bathe. They have laundry facilities, very good and quick wash. I wish there was an area to get hot water, they have ice machine, water, but no hot water? The room got turned into beds daily, which was super nice to come back in the evening and the beds were ready for sleep. During the day, the beds were put away and was a lounge area. They provide yucata, and umbrellas for you to go and stroll in the town, very picturesque. They also provided for green tea, and light snacks in the room. Overall is a nice hotel, but I am disappointed that they d not allow tattoos in their onsen area, would be great to know PRIOR making the booking, so I can look elsewhere.

The Japanese room is spacious and the outdoor onsen is nicer than many other hotels. We had a great time there. The shuttle bus is very convenient. The hotel is actually very big witha library, a table tennis room and and a shop.

Kusatsu is a great onsen town that is fairly compact. Not too easy to walk up and down the hills in the wooden sandals from the inn but very picturesque. The Yubataka cultural performance is not to be missed. The local food is delicious and overall much cooler temperature than Tokyo.

Of the three most popular onsen towns in Gunma, Kusatsu is definitely the most accessible and easiest to wander through. It has an almost amusement park-like quality and is very convenient. There are not many dining options so make sure to book a hotel with breakfast and dinner.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel. It is nestled in the mountains, a gorgeous drive from Tokyo (If you have the time, drive!) Many places to drop in for a foot soak, lots of little shops and restaurants. Prepare to wait in the busy season (which I believe is the fall and winter). This time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and only futons for sleeping- being from the US, this made the trip especially fun but make sure you are ok with getting up and down from the floor. There are less people who speak English than in the major cities. But if you are comfortable pointing and smiling and trying google translate, it is a beautiful place to visit. Note that people with limited mobility may find the town difficult to navigate (steps and steep hills). Better for adults, but there is a little tropical zoo nearby and the onsen demonstration is fun.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter. We went in February and it was snowing. Family love it so much that we’re planning to visit for next winter. A lot of private hot spring and delicious food. We had kaiseki for breakfast and dinner at our ryokan. Definitely worth the trip and ain’t too far from Tokyo. Stay a night if possible.

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-...

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-spring town in the mountains then, Kusatsu is the place for you. It takes a while to get there with the train and bus but if you have the time then I would recommend it. The culture surrounding hot-springs is unique to the Japanese and there is no better place to experience it. Get early there for a day trip because most buses coming down to the train station stop running around 7 PM.

Beautiful onsen, wonderful obliging and friendly staff, perfect location close to the Yuba, bus station, supermarket and the open onsen park. A very nice restaurant right next door as well with oishi soba as well a Lawson downstairs. It was snowing and cold when we were there so this convenience was a godsend. Supermarket also had very nice cooked food. A really wonderful stay. Kusatsu is a very beautiful town. I would highly recommend this accommodation and the breakfasts were superb, really special and beautifully presented.

The Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village is more a resort than a hotel. I don’t know when it was built, but I’m guessing around the mid-seventies, when the resort was probably a very nice place to spend your vacation. The baths are very nice. The staff is top notch!!! Helpful and nice at all times. But then again, so was every person we met in Japan for 3 weeks, so I’m sure you would find that on other local hotels as well.

Great location, great facilities. The staff were very friendly and explained things well. The hotel room was very clean and comfortable, and the private onsen rooms are fully equipped with sinks and places to change. There is also a games room with vintage games and a very cosy vibe. If I ever go back to Kusatsu, I will definitely book with this hotel again. :)
