Kusatsu onsen Futabaya, hotel in Kusatsu

Kusatsu onsen Futabaya offers accommodation in Kusatsu. Free private parking is available on site.

Excellent location. Very short walk from the bus interchange and Yubatake. The boss and staff are very helpful in assisting us with the luggage forwarding service by TA Q Bin. Greatly appreciate their help on this! Staff have been attentive and helpful. The staff speak English, hence it also made communication easier for us. There is washing machine and heater available which we are able to wash our clothing. We originally thought we have to bring the clothing to a laundry shop. 2 onsen baths are available for private use within the hotel.

Fourtreat Kusatsu, hotel in Kusatsu

Located in Kusatsu, 46 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park, Fourtreat Kusatsu provides accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar.

The hotel just cancel our booking without contact us personally, they simply email me which I had missed as it ended up in the junk box. We drove 2 hours from Nagano and when we arrived in the dark, they just leave a message at the door saying the the property is closed due water pump issue! It took us a long time to find another accommodation in Kusatsu as nearly all of them require advance booking!

Kusatsu is a great onsen town that is fairly compact. Not too easy to walk up and down the hills in the wooden sandals from the inn but very picturesque. The Yubataka cultural performance is not to be missed. The local food is delicious and overall much cooler temperature than Tokyo.

Of the three most popular onsen towns in Gunma, Kusatsu is definitely the most accessible and easiest to wander through. It has an almost amusement park-like quality and is very convenient. There are not many dining options so make sure to book a hotel with breakfast and dinner.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel. It is nestled in the mountains, a gorgeous drive from Tokyo (If you have the time, drive!) Many places to drop in for a foot soak, lots of little shops and restaurants. Prepare to wait in the busy season (which I believe is the fall and winter). This time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and only futons for sleeping- being from the US, this made the trip especially fun but make sure you are ok with getting up and down from the floor. There are less people who speak English than in the major cities. But if you are comfortable pointing and smiling and trying google translate, it is a beautiful place to visit. Note that people with limited mobility may find the town difficult to navigate (steps and steep hills). Better for adults, but there is a little tropical zoo nearby and the onsen demonstration is fun.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter. We went in February and it was snowing. Family love it so much that we’re planning to visit for next winter. A lot of private hot spring and delicious food. We had kaiseki for breakfast and dinner at our ryokan. Definitely worth the trip and ain’t too far from Tokyo. Stay a night if possible.

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-spring town in the mountains then, Kusatsu is the place for you. It takes a while to get there with the train and bus but if you have the time then I would recommend it. The culture surrounding hot-springs is unique to the Japanese and there is no better place to experience it. Get early there for a day trip because most buses coming down to the train station stop running around 7 PM.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings. Great Onsen. Its best to go for relaxation purpose and take a dip in the hotsprings. The places to look out for are 1) Yubatake (center of the town) - Please do visit in the evenings as well when the lights turn ON and make it a beautiful view. 2) Sainokawara Park and Open air Onsen. This is a must visit place to spend good walk in the park and then visit Open air Onsen JR Bus station is very close to center - Yubatake. So it's just a 5mins walk and also there are round trip bus by JR to all sightseeing spots. Most of the resorts offer shuttle bus service also; so I recommend to check with your resort before booking. This really helped us. The food is next best thing in Kusatsu. However if you are Vegetarian like us you might find difficulty to find good restaurants. However, there are a couple of Italian restaurants that offer good pasta and pizza which is loaded with vegetables. One major thing to note is the Bus service from Kusatsu Bus station to Nagonahara Kusatsuguchi. The bus service is not regular; so please check it and plan your outbound trip.

Such a beautiful hidden gem at kusatsu onsen town! Super close to everything & even though there is a road out the front it is really quiet. The host/owner, Hiromi- we loved Hiromi! He is so friendly & accommodating, free beverages is a great touch, unit was very clean & beautiful japanese interior with 3 bedrooms, one with futons on the floor japanese style, and a large double bed in the open studio area. Will definitely stay here again & highly recommend this to anyone going to kusatsu

Loved this little hotel! A nice affordable option in Kusatsu. It’s a bit of a walk (15 minutes) outside of the town center, so it’s nice and quiet and away from the strong sulphur smell from the Yubatake. There is a shuttle to town if needed, but the walk is nice and safe. Onsen facility in the hotel was clean, with an indoor and outdoor bath. Staff were very friendly and communicated well even though they don’t speak English and my Japanese is not very strong. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Kaiseki meals in elegant dining room were superb.Good English support in the dining room. Very central location. Futons were OK when double layer of 2 futons was used. Could open the window for fresh air. 30000 yen for Friday night, 39000 yen for Saturday night for 2 people including amazing meals. Room old but clean. Size comfortable but not big. Very quiet. Modest private bathroom and toilet appreciated. Quite nice hotel onsen.

One of the things that we really really appreciated about Kirishimaya Ryokan was staff that speak great English! Not that we expect that when we travel but it’s always wonderful to be able to converse naturally in our mother tongue! :) A very homey ryokan, dated but clean and well-run. The onsens were great…and really hot! Also close to Yubatake and pretty much the centre of Kusatsu.

Great location, great facilities. The staff were very friendly and explained things well. The hotel room was very clean and comfortable, and the private onsen rooms are fully equipped with sinks and places to change. There is also a games room with vintage games and a very cosy vibe. If I ever go back to Kusatsu, I will definitely book with this hotel again. :)

First traditional onsen ryokan experience for me and my Aussie partner. We were absolutely stunned by how elegant and detailed of food was. It was lucky that Tokyo snowed few days ago so we get to see snow covering Kusatsu. We bathed in the onsen admiring how unreal the view was with snow. Brilliant service too but the front desk can barely speak English.

A Ryokan with a homely feel! The gentleman who checked us in spoke really good english and we had no issues with communication whatsoever. He made our stay especially pleasant! The onsen water at Kusatsu is also to the next level! You come with dry and rough skin and leave with silky smooth skin. Highly recommend this onsen town!
