Gifu is a city that's nestled in the valleys of surrounding mountains. It gets very cold and windy in the winter and excrutiatingly hot in the summer. There are many hiking trails accessible from this city.
Make sure to plan your trip to hit the right temperatures. You can use this place as a base to drive out to nearby locations such as Monet's pond, Seki city or Nagoya city. It is also about 2 hours drive from Lake Biwa if you use the toll roads.
Public transport might not be that convenient, recommended to rent a car for this place.

Gifu now is a rather quiet city as most of the Japanese have moved out to bigger cities like Nagoya and Tokyo. The shopping walk at Yanagase had only a few shops open for business. The plus factor is that there is a Takashimaya shopping building where you can do some proper shopping there, but the things are on the pricey side.
However on the JR station side , there are alot of eateries and supermarkets where you can eat and buy foodstuff . Prices are much cheaper there for sashimi if you are into it.
Gifu is only good for the river commorant fishing town , so you have to travel outskirts to Nagano river to enjoy nature and river walk. The castle is only an external shell of a modernised interior , not much to see like the other castles in japan.

I went to Gujo Hachiman and the place is one of the most beautiful I've seen in Japan. I joined Gujo Odori, which is all night dancing held from August 13-15 this year, and it was a magical experience. The dancing started at around 7pm and didn't stop until 5am.
The onsen facilities are wonderful! The variety and quality of food at breakfast is excellent! Wonderful amenities such as free use of the washing machine, free ice cream bars, probiotic drinks, etc. It’s a very clean, comfortable and customer oriented hotel. I initially found the pillow for my bed uncomfortable. I asked the staff at the front desk if they had a different pillow and they kindly lent me something better for me, which was very helpful!
The location is more than perfect for business travelers - just 2 minutes away from Meitetsu station. There are a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel is very clean and the staff is more than collaborative. They tried to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The amenities are perfectly chosen as variety and the rooms are very quiet.
1. You can see many adorable fur babies such as Shiba, cats, and birds.
2. The guesthouse owners are friendly, and one of the owners is Chinese, so you can communicate in English, Japanese, or Chinese.
3. I am able to experience what it's like to live in a Japanese house with a Japanese family, unlike hostels or hotels.
This is a love hotel, so be prepared for that! As in, there’s toys and adult movies easily accessible. But it was so much fun and me and my friend really enjoyed it just being friends! We got a welcome drink and there’s plenty of more drinks and food to order from the TV!
Excellent location, right in front of Nagara- River. You can watch the Ukai boat from your room. Walking distance to the castle and Kinka Mountain. You can see the Gifu Castle from the rooftop bath. Lovely Onsen too. The staff are all attentive and friendly.
The hotel is really close to both Meitetsu and JR stations. The price was really reasonable for a short stay. The room was a little cold but we were able to ask for extra blankets. The bathroom shows a little wear but there's a nice sized bathtub.
I loved that the hotel is conveniently near the stations, a variety of restaurants and other entertainment venues. The room was comfortable and clean. I also liked that despite it being on a busy street, I didn't hear any noise in my room.
Hotel staff was very friendly to foreigners. It was my first time staying there, and I didn't know how to use their services. They helped me figure out everything I needed. Such as the television and phone operation.
Such a beautiful part of the world. The view from the rooms was superb. The staff were very kind. The breakfast service was delicious. Having an onsen in the hotel was a huge bonus, and it was well maintained.
Peaceful, quiet place with friendly, smiley receptionist.
There was an area to “borrow” essentials (I.e face wash, cream, beauty & care products).

Traditional guesthouse close to the majority of Gifu’s best attractions, host is amazing and helpful in every way possible, even with my poor Japanese skills
