Honestly the best experience I have had in a hotel, Victoria on the reception was so courteous and friendly. She really was a great asset to the Villa Cipressi. The room was beautiful and the gardens even more so. I was so impressed by everything, they even packaged up a breakfast for me to go because I was leaving early. Loved every minute of it and the view I had of the lake and the church was incredible the chiming of the church bells in the morning was just magical. Thank you for a lovely experience, I hope to come again.

Super close to the train station. Literally next to the exit with just 1 min walk. It’s also a close walking distance to the pier to hop on the boat to other islands.
The place is very nice, cozy and modern. Well cleaned. Sofa bed is very comfortable and big unlike other places. There’s snack (biscuits, macaron), tea and water to welcome us. There’s a microwave in the kitchen with all the kitchenware. Bathroom is well equipped with amenities. Water pressure is strong. The owner is also super nice and helpful. He stood in front of the place to make sure we find the place. When we msg him to ask something at night, he offered to come by to help and we’re very glad.

Our stay in Varenna was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to this incredible place. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found a true gem. The pictures really don’t do the place justice - it’s unbelievably stunning.
The place is located up a windy road but there is a more direct footpath from the stay down to Varenna. It takes around 15/20 minutes to get down and around 25/30 to get back up. The path is steep but we often walked down and got a taxi back up later in the day / evening - only walking back up maybe 2/3 times. The walk down and up is do-able but if you had any difficulty walking it may be advisable to hire a car as I know many people had done.
However, the views from the hotel are absolutely breathtaking, rivalling those of many villa gardens in the area. Each morning, we were greeted with stunning panoramas that made our stay truly magical. We enjoyed sitting having a morning coffee or evening drink listening to music overlooking the mountain and flowers - truly breathtaking, very romantic and without question the most beautiful place I’ve stayed.
The staff were amazing and exceptionally friendly, always going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They provided us with some amenities to get us by as we did arrive a little late. The coffee was amazing!
Varenna itself is so beautiful, it’s everything you want from Lake Como, the views, the food, the romantic walks, Gelato - it’s very easy to get to neighbouring towns - highly highly recommend this place.

Location is superb - just a minute or two from the Varenna waterfront or the main square. I had 80 and 75 year old parents with me and they were able to enjoy the town without too much trouble (whereas many other accomodations are too far up the hill or too many steps). On more than one occasion when the weather turned I was able to quickly run up the steps from a waterside cafe to fetch my parents a cap or some sunscreen from the apartment and I'd be back sat down in a few minutes.
Host has a wine shop next door and welcomed my family of 5 (one of us stayed elsewhere) with a lovely glass of white wine each. Very nice way to start our trip. Also provided us with a discount on some wine purchases which we enjoyed drinking during some movie nights in the apartment (they had Netflix and Amazon Prime!).
Clean apartment and a nice view from one of the windows (can see the lake), while the others face down on the cobblestoned alleyway where you can watch the world go by.
Good instructions beforehand on locating and accessing the property - I communicated with the host on WhatsApp a few days ahead of my arrival. In the end I was able to access the apartment using the keysafe without any trouble, but after dropping my stuff off I ended up meeting the host at his wineshop next door not too long after.

Perfect location for using the train. It was a little walk to the water and restaurants, but no more than 10 minutes and well worth it. La Veranda, the restaurant above the villa, was excellent. The villa was beautiful. There was a nice outside area with tables, chairs, etc. but unfortunately, we were unable to use them due to weather and time. Our host was wonderful. We left our bags early morning and when we returned, they were in our rooms. One thing we missed is the breakfast which I heard was great, but we had too early of a train. Breakfast is made to order, so could not pre-order. Would absolutely stay again.

Varenna is beautiful and we enjoyed it, but no taxis available you have to stay right in town otherwise have to walk steep hills back to your villa. Restaurants require reservations. Highly recommend Villa Monesterio for walking and outdoor cafe. Everything was very crowded on Saturday and the ferry from Villa Carlotta was over loaded with people if there had been any accident most people could not get out it was too over crowded.

Ferries are frequent & very punctual.
One hour train ride into Milan, not that frequent so check the times.

The views from Varenna are better than the more southerly locations. There are lovely walks and it’s easy to get to nearby towns. There are many eating places but not much opportunity to shop if self catering.

We knew we were going off season (the hotel has only opened...
We knew we were going off season (the hotel has only opened the week we visited in the 2nd week of March) Varenna is a pretty village with breathtakingly beautiful views. But off season there was nowhere open to get a drink or food after 9pm!
the staff were so friendly and accommodating. they bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. upon arrival they reserved a prime table for us at their restaurant. Additionally, the Varenna train station was closed due to a landslide on the tracks. the staff arranged for a taxi transport to take us to Lecco so we could catch our originally scheduled train. Not to mention the property is beautiful and PERFECTLY located for hopping around lake Como.
We liked it all…we had a clean comfortable room with a view of Lake Como (we were in the suite), the food at the restaurant was amazing and the staff the best of any of our stays in Italy. This was the last 2 nights of our two week trip and it was hard to leave. Varenna is unassuming but easy to get to via train or ferry. We took the train from Milan and walked to the hotel from the station (maybe a half mile) - doable. If we could give the staff a 10, we would! 🙂

B&B Villa Varenna is a particularly charming hotel run by the very welcoming, friendly and kind Mauro. Our room was clean and comfortable with a wonderful lake view. A generous and enjoyable breakfast is provided on the lovely terrace each morning. The location is excellent with easy access to restaurants, cafes, excellent walks, trains and ferries. Our 4 night stay was a highlight of our holiday.
The views of Lake Como were amazing! It was so beautiful and made it worth the stay at this place. The room was nice and spacious with a full kitchen and bathroom. It was about a 10 min walk to the city of Varenna and a little less to the ferry. We were able to spend a lot of time in Varenna while also exploring Bellagio and Menaggio. This cute apartment has a gorgeous view of lake Como and it’s surrounding cities. It’s located about 5 minutes south of Varenna by car. Everything was clean. Roberto is a very kind and generous host. After a long trip around the cities it was nice to have some quiet time here. Would love to come again!

The room was tiny but thoughtfully designed and aesthetically pleasing. I had a wonderful view of Varenna, Lake como and the Alps. Breakfast exceeded my expectations, espresso, eggs made to order and a variety of meats cheeses and pastries.
The location was perfect and the room was clean and comfortable! The breakfast every morning was amazing and the staff was wonderful! I would recommend The Orange House to anyone traveling to Lake Como and I hope to return one day!
