Assisi is world famous for the 2 saints – Francis and Clare – who were born here and subsequently founded Christian poverty movements. The tomb of the former is in the Basilica of St Francis, majestically located on a hill surveying the Umbrian countryside. Its graceful lines and powerful frescoes defy its 13th-century construction.
The Basilica of St Clare is from the same period and displays remains of the saint who inspired the Poor Clares. Between the 2 basilicas is the New Church, positioned where St Francis supposedly once lived, and the Cathedral of St Rufinus, dedicated to the saint who converted Assisi to Christianity.
Considerably older are the Roman villa remains near main Piazza del Comune, whose historic buildings house shops and pavements cafes on the site of the former forum. The columns of the Church of St Mary over Minerva were the entrance to a Roman temple.
Roman castle remains sit in the hills above Assisi, as does the more intact, medieval Rocca Maggiore which offers magnificent views over the town. Even higher is the Eremo delle Carceri, a stone hermitage where St Francis apparently preached to birds.
The cobbled streets ascending Assisi’s hills contain most of Booking.com’s accommodation options, including luxury hotels, cheap apartments and B&Bs near Santa Maria degli Angeli train station.
Beautiful, magical place. Lots of tourists but many were coach parties who left quickly and didn't stay overnight. The lower basilica of San Francesco was a bit crowded with groups but the system of mics and earphones meant they were quiet and they soon moved on. The upper basilica and treasury were very quiet. Lots of decent restaurants in the village and shops to buy nice presents. There weren't any everyday shops. Lots of steps and slopes so you have to be reasonably mobile. It was easy to park the car in the underground carpark and walk up into the village. It's very compact apart from the hermitage which is a short drive away from the village but well worth visiting. We wouldn't bother with Santa Maria degli Angeli on the plain next time as it's being refurbished so not much to see atm

Assisi and the basilicas hill is an amazing place, worth visiting and enjoying for at least two nights. The view of the valley is breathtaking.
The whole complex is very clean and well maintained.
We had a decent breakfast at the hotel, for lunch and dinner there are plenty of diverse restaurants.
Beside the obvious religious meaning, Assisi is a treasure for art lovers.

This is a religious tourist city.
This is a religious tourist city. It is more relaxed and the sights afford you a chance to reflect on ancient Italy and what it meant in medieval times. Yes, there are a lot of souvenir shops but they focus on the deeds and good works of St. Francis. It's a good two day visit.
We stayed here 1 night and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is in a perfect location to explore Assisi. The room itself was small but the bathroom and shower were larger than I expected. Beds were not the most comfortable but the view from our room was incredible!! The host was very gracious and she even helped us carry our luggage up to the room. The restaurant at the Panoramic is excellent, a must try when visiting Assisi. Highly recommend the Posta Panoramic in Assisi.
My room was clean, bright, and comfortable and I was always happy to come back to the hotel at the end of the day. The host and staff are kind and thoughtful. I also loved that I was located in Santa Maria degli Angeli near the Basilica and in a neighborhood that had some tourists, but was more calm and filled with fantastic restaurants. I preferred being there and then easily walking or taking the bus (which comes every 20 minutes) up to Assisi. And the breakfast was lovely.
This family-run 2* hotel is better than many 3* hotels in Italy. The staff and the owners are extremely nice and kind. The breakfast is super for a 2* hotel. There is a parking at 50-100 metres from the hotel.
The family runs also an excellent restaurant in the old town with wonderful panoramic view and delicious food. The restaurant is 15-20 mins climb uphill away from the hotel, though, but the effort is worth. Overall - very pleasant experience.
Incredibly nice and tastefully decorated, very ancient apartment with all the comforts of home. We loved it so much, that instead of staying two days, we stayed a week! Beautiful and energetic couple available for suggestions and help anytime. Our favorite stay in Italy so far!!! Perfect location for quiet (very small street) but also just a moments walk into the beauty and inspiration of Assisi!
Owners are good people. Very generous and caring.
I've been traveling and working remotely. Internet and the desk provided a better setup than branded hotels.
Awesome location to enjoy Assisi. In Assisi, you want to stay a block away from the main plaza Commune, not near the Basilica of St Francis.
Air conditioning worked very well, which is important during the Italian summer.
Great location!
It has the best view ever out of our Italy trip. We were able to see the church from our room.
Monica (the person we contacted) & the manager on-site Mr. Dante was very helpful & lovely.
The location is close to anywhere that we wanted to go in the city.
Definitely coming back to book here if we ever come back to Assisi!
The hotel is central to everything in Assisi. The hostess put out a beautiful spread of food for breakfast, much more variety than we expected. The room was modest, but clean and certainly comfortable enough for our one-night stay. We loved having the balcony, where we were able to air out (and even dry hand washed) clothes.
It is hard to summarize. Everything was perfect. The hotel is definitely in my top 3 list. The location is amazing, 5 minutes from Assisi and it has a very special view to the city too. It has this Italian farm feeling, which makes it even more special. The owner made us feel part of the family.
The most exquisite apartment in a beautiful location. Great views from the beautiful garden, an ancient chapel, extraordinary comfort and amenities in the apartment, and Alberto was so friendly and helpful! This is a return place for sure! It was the highlight of our trip to Italy!!!!
Great little 3 star hotel. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is very clean and very family friendly.
The bar and lobby area is very nice and quite trendy.
Great location just 10 mns away from the center of Assisi by foot.
Breakfast was also very good.
The staff were very helpful, I had to stay another day, always a joy in Assisi, thanks to a train strike, and they arranged this at the usual rate. The hotel is very central, two minutes from the piazza del Commune. The breakfast was good.
It was the best hotel on our trip to Italy! Just excellent! All staff was so helpful, friendly and professional! Also, the hotel restaurant was a great experience! The spa shouldn't be missed!
One of the most fantastic view I had in Italy
Hosts are wonderful of kindness
The garden is magnificent
Fantastic cocktails
The rooms are so charming
The best breakfast I had in Italy
There was a wonderful non-denominational church that we attended on the same street walking distance from the hotel (CCB of Assisi). We highly recommend to visit it.
This hotel is centrally located in Assisi and close to the churches we wanted to visit. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
