Great History, Greenery and Pubs

Dublin is home to more than a quarter of the entire Republic of Ireland’s population and was originally founded as a Viking settlement. A lot has changed from those Viking days, and Dublin is now famous for its literary history and the most green-spaces of any other European capital, making Dublin a real Irish gem.

Dublin Castle is at the heart of the city's history and Trinity College holds the renowned Book of Kells, a beautifully illustrated manuscript from circa 800 AD. The Ha’penny Bridge is the city’s most photographed landmark and the statue of Molly Malone celebrates the heroine of Dublin’s unofficial anthem.

Dublin is home to many important literary figures including Oscar Wilde, William Yeats, Samuel Beckett and George Bernard Shaw. As the famous location of James Joyce’s “Ulysses”, the city offers tours tracing the protagonist’s footsteps.

Being one of the most youthful European cities, Dublin has a vibrant nightlife scene with the popular Temple Bar area and plenty of bars and pubs, which invite you to stay out until the wee hours of the morning.

    Dublin is a great city.

Dublin is a great city. We were in Ireland a couple of years ago but only had a few hours in Dublin. This time, we had a 2 nights before flying to Scotland. We stayed in the downtown area. Everything we wanted was in walking distance. Visited the Guinness Store, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trinity College, Temple Bar and a few other spots. Had dinner at a couple of the restaurants, which were great.

We came for the theatre and just stayed for the evening. But everything we encountered was enjoyable. Stayed at the Mayson, dined in a lovely Mexican restaurant (777), and visited the Bord Gais Theatre. Can highly recommend all of these venues

    Dublin is a lively city!

Dublin is a lively city! We went at the beginning of September, so it was chilly but still perfect outdoor drinking weather. EVERYONE is outdoors drinking, it's a cool scene! We also had great food, neither of which were traditional Irish restaurants, at Nomo Ramen and Toscana. Grafton street and the Guinness Tour, no matter how touristy, are a must. Grafton street surrounding pubs (not Temple bars) are filled with locals -- check out Cassie Stokes on IG for more recs!

Dublin is a cosmopolitan city with a superb selection of dining options, plenty of interesting distractions, museums, city tours, sea swimming in the city, attractive night live from theatre to musicals to comfy pubs for wet winter evenings. The Luas tram is a superb public transport feature that connects with the DART Dublin area rail system that runs along the coast north and south of the city with breathtaking views of the coastline.

Go to Dublin to see the history and culture of the City and of Ireland. BUT hotels are scarce and expensive. The city is crowded and many areas are dirty - we were safe walking around the central core during the day, but not so sure about the night. Dublin is now a large city and has inherited the current problems of large cities. BUT it is not to be missed even if you only stay for 2 - 3 days!

Central location near a lot of tourist attractions, restaurants, shopping areas, hospitals etc. Like most city centres you need to careful at night. I got street parking across the road from the hotel at the weekend. Comfortable bed and a nice room. Breakfast was superb and included in my rate which was great value for money in Dublin. Nice bar and dining room on the ground floor. Complimentary water, tea & coffee facilities in the room. Overall a good experience.
