Hars Garden Sumba, hotel in Waingapu

Offering mountain views, Hars Garden Sumba in Waingapu provides accommodation and a garden. There is free private parking and the property offers paid airport shuttle service.

A truly unique experience. A breathtaking view from every bungalow. The owner Hars has created an organic paradise where 80% of all the meals come straight from his garden. Hars and his Japanese wife are fantastic hosts and organised everything for us including transport to and from the airport , bike hire and three organic meals a day. On top of that we got to learn lots about real organic farming techniques and the special island of Sumba… thanks Hars we will be back.

Pondok Wisata Pantai Cemara, hotel in Waingapu

Located along the private Purukambera Beach, Pondok Wisata Pantai Cemara offers free parking facilities and rooms with ocean views.

The best thing about this hotel is the amazingly friendly and helpful staff. The room was fine, but at first I thought it seemed a little expensive for what it was. However, after a morning of snorkelling with Erwin, and great day trip to the falls and a local village, followed by horse riding with Lexi and dinner with the lovely Norcia, I realise the value comes from the staff. The grandma and granddaughter duo in the kitchen also cook up lovely meals. We regret not staying another night to enjoy more snorkelling with Erwin.

If you don't like crowd and noise this is the place to go as you do not have to worry about traffic jam and pollution. Don't aspect big restaurant or fast food joint in the city as there is none. Hiring a car to get around is more expensive if compared to Bali but the road trip across the island is amazing with beautiful view of rolling hills so worth it. The white sandy beaches is almost empty (you can see a few locals), beautiful and most importantly no rubbish.

The city center itself is quiet and not much to see, and unfortunately no restaurants sell authentic local East Sumba food. But its surrounding is really great. Within 30 minutes - 1 hour, there are hills and landscapes that offer great views and experience.
