Loved everything! The location hidden in the mangroves but only a short boat ride from town. The staff were all very friendly and willing to help. Food was great and very reasonably priced. Comfortable beds/rooms. Very serene atmosphere. The tour to Livingstone was well priced and fun! Free transfer to and from Rio Dulce on check in and out and free kayaks! For what you pay it's great value.

Staff, extremely helpful and welcoming. Great service
I really wanted to like Rio Dulce. It turned out to be only a hub for boat and bus travel for me. Having spent two months in Guatemala by the time I got there, I was not surprised by the poverty or conditions. That said, I didn’t find much other than the castle to be places I wanted to see more of. It was very hot and humid in early July.

Beautiful remote location with many jungle lodges (from super remote to more public) along the river. Great jungle hikes, caves, kayaking with plenty of nature and wildlife. Definitely a required stop when visiting Guatemala, will visit again!

Hotel Casa Perico is a great place to relax. In the middle of nature, yet very comfortable. Friendly staff who prepare fine meals. The hotel is only accessible by boat. You can go to the Sundog restaurant in Rio Dulce. Tell the bar that you want to go to the hotel. Then a free shuttle will be organised. The boat trip takes 5-10 minutes.
There is free canoe rental, which I enjoyed very much.
Very friendly staff, the hostess speaks fluent English, it’s a great relief if you are not too fluent speaking Spanish. The instructions on how to get to the hotel are thorough, just take a time to read the guidelines. Restaurant serves all meals from breakfast to dinner, all was delicious what we had. Place is quiet and excellent if you’re looking for a relaxing stay.
The Hotelito is the place to go to explore Rio Dulce. Superbe vegetarian food, relax, great vibes, overall well-run hostel. Kayaks to rent, wonderful location on the river with a deck and comfy rooms. Good showers and bathroom facilities too. Plenty of tours!
Great place to unwind for a few days, you are in middle of a lake with no roads! be prepared to stay at hotel a lot of the time, staff only speak Spanish but I liked this as I’m trying to learn Spanish (use it as an opportunity to learn)
