In the Rio Dulce river near a 16th century castle the Tortugal Boutique River Lodge peninsula is bathed by almost constant on shore breezes providing a cool and refreshing place.

I really wanted to like Rio Dulce. It turned out to be only a hub for boat and bus travel for me. Having spent two months in Guatemala by the time I got there, I was not surprised by the poverty or conditions. That said, I didn’t find much other than the castle to be places I wanted to see more of. It was very hot and humid in early July.

Beautiful remote location with many jungle lodges (from super remote to more public) along the river. Great jungle hikes, caves, kayaking with plenty of nature and wildlife. Definitely a required stop when visiting Guatemala, will visit again!
This hotel is a gem ! First it s absolutely beautiful, the architecture of the hotel and the location. It is on the water but not directly on Rio Dulce which make the place secluded and quieter. Second, the food is amazing. We stayed 3 nights so we had time to try a lot of different things and everything was really good. Third, the people working there are the sweetest people, you can really see how they care about this place and how proud they are to be part of it. Also try their 1hour massage ! Highly recommend!
We had a great 3 nights stay at Boatique. The hotel itself is beautiful. The rooms clean and simple. The surroundings are the reason for coming. Nature everywhere you look. The jungle at night is special. The staff were great and helped us with any queries or bookings we needed. You can do boat trips and activities or just relax. The pool was lovely. Everything we ate was delicious and the menu was varied. We would stay again.
Excellent wooden cabin room, very cozy and comfortable, enough space and amenities.
Location is fantastic and feels very much like part of the jungle. There's even a crocodile in the creek flowing through the finca and joining Rio Dulce. The hotel has its own landing and you can do a great boat trip down to Livingston or up to the lake. Very reasonable price for a great lodging experience. Stayed an extra night!
Free kayaks to swimming spot. Nice and knowledgeable owner. Food was good and often better value than in town. 10 minute boat ride to Rio Dulce town. No personal food allowed at the restaurant area, but there's tables near the rooms where you can eat your leftovers or snacks. Saw some small turtles in the mangroves and bigger ones at the swimming spot!
Nice staff and room! It is noisy die to the road but if you live in the city it is the same amount of noise.
We were so tired from our trip from Mexico city and went straight to Rio dulce it was easy for us to fall a sleep
Also pick up (collectivo/public boat) from the hotel to Livingstone and other river lodges
We got a room not facing the street (i.e. #3), and it was one of the best nights of sleep we had in 5 weeks in Guatemala. AC, wifi in the room, very comfortable bed and pillows (way above Guatemala standard) and a great shower. The cafe is also fantastic with delicious breakfast for Q20-Q30.
Great hotel very helpful staff and funny excellent food the americano breakfast is excellent When u arrive at the boat port u have to phone the hotel and will be picked up and boat trip was good other trips are are available or hand around the hotel cooling down in the river
Such a great spot; swim, kayak, lounge around, chat to other guests, head into Rio Dulce town...we loved it here. Angela and Rudi were both so helpful, the two house dogs make the place feel homely and our room was enormous. Comfy bed, clean bathroom.
Situated right on the water, this hotel offered a beautiful restaurant, hammocks to relax in, and the breeze off the water was wonderful. The room was very clean, the shower had good hot water and pressure.
Liesel was awesome and communicative. The food was outstanding (did a 4 course dinner with wine pairing), and the whole vibe of the hotel was relaxed and modern while still being an eco lodge.
The place is nice, we were in the middle of the mangrove and it's beautiful. The food is good and they have kayak for free witch is really cool. It's more an hotel than an hostel tho.
forgot my iphone charger but we’re not willing to look for a. solution to return it. literally said: it’s not the problem of the hotel. Overpriced hotel
