Lovely quaint little church on the end of the jetty.
Lovely quaint little church on the end of the jetty. The area immediately around the harbour was lovely. The rest of Georgioupolis was way too touristy for us, but then again, we love quaint and typical Cretan villages, we thought we were coming somewhere much smaller.

Georgioupoli is a charming destination with a nice beach and a lovely town square that comes alive at night. Lots of restaurants and a wide variety of smaller and larger hotels in different categories to choose from.
Kournas lake is well worth a visit as it is close by. As it is close to both Rethymnon and Chania it is perfectly located for those who wish to combine their stay with one or more destinations.

The town has two wonderful beaches: Kavalaki on the west side; Georgioupoli to the east. The latter is very long (more than 5 kilometres) and offers good exercise! Both beaches give gently sloped access to the beautiful sea. It’s ideal for families with young children.
There is a town square that offers many places to eat and drink. My personal favourites are the Splendid which provides marvellous cooked breakfasts and runs a fun quiz every Friday afternoon, Titos bar which provides much seating to relax, enjoy the views and their bar facilities (not to mention free WiFi facilities with strong connectivity) and Mythos restaurant which offers fabulous food in large portions (try their Tuna and Avacado salad). The hotel at which we stayed also offers great food - I’m a big fan of their Saganaki Shrimp meal. The square also houses a great taxi service to get you to both neighbouring towns, the two airports - not to mention the ferry port at Souda bay.
Away from the beaches, there are other lovely walks along the lanes. You can walk across the bridge that connects the town to Kavalaki beach and meander for miles towards the hills - or at the other end of the town square, you can wander for half a mile or so along a lovely avenue through the trees.
The town itself stands just over halfway between Chania and Rethymno both of which are lively places to visit and easily accessible by bus or car along the National Road.
Things to avoid? I don’t have an answer to that - it’s a great place.

We loved it here-didnt want to come home!
We loved it here-didnt want to come home! The villa is amazing. Just brilliant with everything you need. Facilities great. Very clean. We used the BBQ which was excellent. Pool small but perfect for me....as I am not a pool lover. Good size to cool down in.
The hosts were so kind with gifts, food and drinks. The villa is located just under 1km from the centre of the village of Kavros. The walk down the hill to centre is nice.....harder coming back up! Good tavernas, shops and supermarkets. Ideal for families. The villa was far enough away from centre to be in a quiet location and close enough to reach the centre by foot. We had a car and visit to Lake Kournas a must! Want to go back as soon as we can! Beach excellent too and about 1km away.

Lovely location with a good mix of locals and tourists.
Lovely location with a good mix of locals and tourists. Plenty of tavernas and bars to choose from with fabulous food and drink available. There are facilities for small children around the village and the long beach has activities most of the day. A river flows into the sea by the harbour creating beautiful vistas and an excellent location to watch the sunset.

We were there with our adult daughters, their husbands and our 18 month old grandson. The hotel was ideal for us, as the main pool is superb for adults, while the kiddies club has its own pool for the little ones.
There were lots of activities and my wife enjoyed the yoga, stretching and aqua gym.
We were on the all inclusive package, which I would really recommend as it includes most cocktails and a wide selection of wines.
Place was well maintained and clean. A small balcony facing the sea was great. Staff at reception and restaurant were friendly and helpful. The beach is just at the back though lot of pebbles for first 10-15 metres into the water. You got the bus stop for buses going to Chania, Rethimno and Heraklion at about 200m. The road to the bus stop from Hotel is like a service road ( public road ) but no lights.
From start to finish the service from Palladion Hotel was brilliant. We had a late flight and they waited up for us to make sure we had everything we needed. It is a family run hotel and nothing is too much for them. Rooms cleaned every day and the pool area ia lovely and clean.Handy for the beach a 5 min walk and same for shops and cafes/bars. we will definitely be staying again on our return to Crete.
This charming traditional villa is a peaceful retreat for families, just a short drive from Georgioupolis. The jacuzzi and balcony offer serene views, and the hospitable owners ensure a comfortable stay. I highly recommend it. I will come back soon!!!
