Lovely small Greek village by the sea with an amazing castle. Super clear water and sandy beach. Plenty of restaurants of all types. Nice and relaxed and lots of places to visit if you have a car. stayed in the lovely Ulysses hotel.

Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that it is hard to get away to visit other places without a car. There are some buses, to Pylos, Finicounta and Kalamata, but it was impossible to get a timetable. We kind of got round it by getting a taxi to Pylos initially, and the nice man at the bus office wrote down the times of buses between Pylos and Methoni, but we didn't travel around as much as we might have because it was so hard to get the bus times. There are very good local taxi services, but they are a bit pricey to do more than a couple of excursions (for us anyway - no disrespect at all to local taxi driver who were wonderful when we used them). Other than this it is really beautiful and absolutely fantastic food. The beach is lovely and great for swimming and snorkelling. The castle is amazing. Getting a boat to nearby Sapientza is recommended too, as is an excursion to Ancient Messini. The museum at the castle in Pylos is great.

Methoni has a good choice of restaurants, quite a few of which are located around the square which has a lovely atmosphere of an evening. There is plenty of free parking and the castle is worth visiting, especially for the views.
Methoni is a great place to relax and watch the boats or to sip a cocktail while looking at the milky way.

Methoni is a great village for a relaxing beach holiday.It suits families with young children ,couples and solo travellers who want a peaceful holiday.There are lots of traditional Greek restaurants none of the usual tourist fare, the food is amazing our favourite was Sapienza just off the coast road.
The beach is clean with plenty of sunbeds the sea is shallow and crystal clear..I would suggest use the sunbeds in front of the Methoni Beach Hotel.the beds are free you just need to purchase food or drinks.The food is excellent and everything is ordered and brought to your sun lounger.There are lots of friendly cats and some dogs who like following you around the village.
Visiting Methoni castle is a must,it is huge!! It only costs €3 per person the views are amazing with loads of wildflowers inside the ruins.I would be apprehensive though taking young children due to the open steep drops in some cases.
There are 3 gift/tourist shops in the village and two small mini markets.There are two amazing bakeries on the same road our favourite was Athanasiou Bakery a great selection of bread, pastries,cakes and handmade mini ice creams.
The Trojan horse bar makes great cocktails and the staff are helpful and friendly.A good place to try a few cocktails.
Overall visit Methoni and stay in the Achilles hotel. The village is great and easy to walk around for a peaceful beach holiday with none of the usual tourist stuff that can ruin a resort.

Methoni is a quiet unspoiled place, with all the pros and cons.
Restaurants are quite good, parking spaces are plenty and many places/beaches nearby to go to.
One huge disappointment is the main attraction: Methoni castle is one of the biggest and most important castles in the whole country but at night it is pitch-black ... zero effort was put in illumination, what a pity!
The location is ideal, very close to Methoni but not inside the town where it could be noisy. Although it is next to the main street (ethniki odos), the bedrooms are situated in the basement where it is always cool and quiet.
Anastasia, the hostess, is a wonderful, warm person that will take care of any issue that may arise and will help make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
The owner, who occupies the first suite of the complex, is so discreet and polite you will not even know that someone is living next door.
Villa 2. The location is set back from the main area of Methoni (which we liked), but only 15mins walk to the main 'square' in town and the beach front.
The villa is spacious, modern and private. Cleaning was regular and discreet.
If you have a car, it's easy to get to the many beaches in the area. There is plenty of parking for the villa.
The host was very friendly and lent us a BBQ so we could dine in one evening (although the property description mentioned that one was included).
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Modone villa in Methoni with our family, and it was nothing short of perfect. The place's cleanliness was impeccable, and its location couldn't have been better. The hosts were extremely friendly and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We especially loved the pool area and were captivated by its stunning views. Without a doubt, we would love to visit again and highly recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Methoni.
Breakfast in the garden! The host is charming and friendly. Offered us a choice of drinks on arrival which we took in the garden terrace. The room, beds, and shower were very clean and comfortable. WiFi worked well. Parking available on the streets outside the hotel. Short walk to several restaurants, the castle, and the beach. But that breakfast served at tables in the garden terrace is the most memorable part of the stay. Great choice of foods.

Superb family business. Aris, one of the owners, and manager Monica were lovely hosts, very friendly and extremely helpful to any of our requests, making our stay there a joy! The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Methoni, and has a beautiful garden in which to have coffee or breakfast. Our room had a balcony with a great view overlooking the castle. Fantastic hotel and hosts!
We decided to take a last minute trip to Methoni before heading up to Pilos. Dimitri the owner was very pleasant and hospitable. He offered to take my girlfriend's bag up to our room. The hotel is walking distance to the Fortress and right next to the square where there's a few restaurants and breakfast places. The location was perfect for us as we arrived late from a long drive.
9/10 for value - had everything you could want for a great price. parking, walkable to walking street, restaurants, castle, beach and sunset view. view from patio, good beds, just 1 air conditioner but it was eventually able to cool both bedrooms. good laundry, shower, kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms. recommended for stay in Methoni.
Hotel staff offered us renovated room with city view or not yet renovated room with sea view. We chose the old room with sea view. Even the old room was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. Our balcony was just above the main square with restaurants and bars and it has a nice sea and fortress view.
