Angie was very helpful and gave us a great welcome with lots of local information.
There's a good mini market about a 7 minute walk up the road. We were cycling and the hills are steep so a car would be helpful. The sttractive beach would be in walking distance if you are happy with a steep incline. The road from the capital is a lovely drive. There was a pizza restaurant but we think it had just closed recently for end of season.

A beautiful house in the heart of Kefalonia, situated close to the Lixouri town and the most famous beaches on the island.The house is a quiet oasis with a beautiful view to the sea, surrounded by olive trees and flowers. The house is freshly renovated and offers all amenities for a comfortable stay. The host Stelios is a very friendly and welcoming person. He assisted us with all questions and requests during our stay. Everything exceeded our expectations.

One of the best location ever! A cozy and nice house with a very friendly owner. Cold water in the fridge, coffee, potatoes, tee, oregano from the owner.Easy to contact him. The house is nicer than I saw in pictures. And also bigger. Inside and outside you have everythink you need. There are 3 AC, one for each room, but you don't realy need its. The house is cool. The rooms are large and also the bathroom (it has a large window). It's a traditional house but also a modern one. Mobil phone has no signal, but this is not a problem because the wifi is perfect if you want to contact the worl (but you'll not). Lot's of great beaches are closet (only by car 10-30 minutes), taverns to eat.

It is a quiet area but well worth visiting.
Be aware that it is remote, and if you stay here then everywhere else is a long drive away!
Portas Atheros is a good beach and has decent Tavernas.
There are walks to other beaches, Agni, in particular , that are worth the effort if you like swimming or snorkelling.

The thing we loved most about Atheras was the peaceful, relaxing, sandy beach and picturesque bay with its turquoise clear waters and traditional fishing boats. Its gentle, shallow entry waters make it particularly perfect for families with young children, people with mobility problems and for launching kayaks and paddleboards. The beach is not ‘organised’ so visitors should remember to bring their own parasols and mattresses if needed as there are none to rent. The added bonus of Porto Atheras are the two excellent restaurants by the beach. The location is rural so a car is as advisable. I would wholeheartedly recommend Regina Studios for accommodation, just a few minutes by car from Porto Atheras Beach or about 10 minutes on foot.
