It’s a really lovely and well thought out annex. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet this is the place to be. I particularly loved the skylight in the room because I could watch the starts at night and clouds move during the day.

The breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice and my requests for dietary requirements were met. We had an evening meal which again was first class. The room was comfortable. If we booked again we would like a room with a bigger shower space.

The Duke of Wellington Wetherspoon, hotel in Wootton Courtenay

The Duke of Wellington Wetherspoon is offering accommodation in Minehead. With a shared lounge, the property also features a bar and free WiFi. The units in the hotel are equipped with a kettle.

Exceptional value for money, for a double room at £76 a night, especially over a Bank Holiday weekend, when the West Somerset Railway is hosting its hugely popular steam gala. My room was spacious and reasonably well equipped, with tea and coffee in the room. Quiet too, despite being over a busy pub. Being able to just go downstairs to a restaurant for dinner or breakfast was great too, after walking miles all day! My room had an ensuite shower and bath, with plenty of hot water too. A comfortable bed and free wifi completed the picture. Key card entry to both the rooms and the access corridor was nice to see.

As we visited during the final week of lockdown, we could not enjoy the local pubs etc in the area. There are many places of interest within a few miles of the accommodation. You can walk many of the bridle ways etc directly from the apartment. It would have been great to stay longer but due to other commitments we had to return after a few days. You can easily spend a week meandering the many walks and bridleways in this beautiful area.

Particularly good for walkers, our car remained on the car park throughout the 4 days we were there as we could walk straight from the door. Dunkery Beacon, Horner Woods, Dunster and the area around Selworthy all excellent walking. We ate every evening in the hotel and the meals were of an extremely high standard [I worked as a chef for many years]. If visitors want to go sightseeing, there are many local places of interest, our favourite is Dunster.
