It is a good half way point for meeting people from the South and South East etc. There are attractions nearby and it is excellent for walking. There is a local shop but we didn't need it as we took food with us. There is a friendly pub called The Star. Mare Common could have been better signposted from the roads but we found it. Lovely area and change from our coastal home.
