Bel & The Dragon at The Red Lion is a historic grade II-listed coaching inn with stunning features dating back to 1669 and possibly even earlier in origin; much of the original building still stands.

The duty manager was very rude and unhelpful. Did not want to listen and when I informed him that he was being rude acted like a child. I have stayed in the hotel on several occasions, but I now won’t be booking a hotel for my overnight stays. I will also instruct my team not to used this hotel.

The hotel felt very welcoming, the outdoor seating area was really nice and inviting. We ended up having breakfast and was pleasantly surprised at what was on offer.

Wendover looked really fresh and welcoming. Better than when I was there before the pandemic.
Amazing Thai restaurant at the George and Dragon. The waitress remembered, to the letter and person, the order from 8 people and the food was fab.

Wendover is a very picturesque small town with lots of good restaurants and pubs to choose from. The Ridgeway Path goes through Wendover and this stretch of the path is very beautiful in that it traverses through some varied woodlands. It is also a great base for visiting other places of interest, such as the Natural History Museum in Tring.

It's in a beautiful part of the country (soon to be ruined by HS2 unfortunately) and there is plenty of access to great walks on Coombe Hill NT property, Wendover Woods - complete with Skywalk - as well as the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal towpaths. Other NT properties are nearby.
This is a beautiful old coaching inn right on the High Street in Wendover - full of character and really well looked after. Our room was delightful - comfortable bed with very good linen, a fridge (loved the milk being put in there rather than the usual sachets) and a very well appointed bathroom with very fluffy towels. The breakfasts were excellent - cooked to order so hot and fresh. Every member of staff we came across was really friendly and helpful. And the Sipsmith sloe gin in the rooms was a delightful touch. highly recommend.
Perfect location, very quiet but at the same time with easy access to the shops and restaurants, as well as beautiful walks to the Wendover woods and the viewpoint.
Very welcoming host Susanna, she was always there to help! Not to mention the royal breakfast we had, it was delicious and we were set almost until dinner time!
We were staying with 1 year old baby and Susanna has thought of everything for us to be comfortable, we had a big cot prepared and a high chair!
This was our second stay at Hale House. We were met with a lovely warm smile from the owner and tea with delicious home made cake. Hale House is immaculate. It is in a very convenient location, a lovely short walk into Wendover where there is plenty of choice for an evening meal. Breakfast is lovely with home made preserves and honey. The owner takes great care and pride over Hale House which makes it what it is.
Interesting house designed so that no heating is needed and air is filtered to remove particulate pollutants. Good sized room tastefully decorated and furnished without fussy stuff. Friendly and informative host. Homemade jam and marmelade. Handy for Ridgeway National Trail. Easy walking distance to lots of restaurants in lively centre of Wendover.
Accommodations were great-- was perfect for the husband, me and our 6-year old. She loved sleeping in a bunk bed! Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was very comfortable and nicely appointed.
Loved seeing young adults making a go of it at this place...and getting it right! Congrats, guys!
We were walking the Ridgeway and the Red Lion was an ideal overnight stop before the last section to Ivinghoe Beacon. Very comfortable room. Friendly staff. Good pub dinner with nice selection of beers and a varied choice of breakfasts.
Immaculately clean. very comfortable bedroom. The home was modern and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was delicious, freshly made. The host Susanna was very friendly. Overall I had a fantastic stay.
The room was large, very clean and a huge bed. Lots of nice extras in the room like coffee pods, biscuits a small glass of sloe gin each. Very quiet and breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices.
Great hotel. lovely, friendly staff. Excellent room and delicious breakfast. A great touch - the free gin and the ‘night cap’ on the landing. The Dyson fan in the room was also a real bonus.
I think I tried enough B&B to say that Hale House is the best B&B in UK & Susanna set a new bar that is hard for any place else to match, it is a hidden gem in Wendover, highly recommended.
Lovely busy pub/hotel. Great ambience & lovely accommodation although a little small for a superior room & I missed having a bath (my fault for overlooking this).
Lovely pub in Wendover, good food and really nice room.
Staff were friendly and really helpful and we had a really enjoyable evening and overnight stay.
