Totnes is a fantastic town with a historic castle.

Totnes is a fantastic town with a historic castle. It seems to have some quite new-age, alternative style shops along with the standard high street retail offering. It has the amazing River Dart flowing through and there is the opportunity for watersports and sightseeing tourist boat trips.

Totnes is a vibrant trendy town with lots of quaint shops in beautiful riverside surroundings. Lots of places to stay, restaurants and cafés, specialities Pasties, Fudge. Interesting castle. Near Dartmoor and many places of interest. Trains to London, Plymouth, Penzance. Good bus services to various places: Exeter, Paignton, Newton Abbot. We ate at the Royal Seven Stars and Steam Packet Inn - both good.

The best place to stay - near the moor and near the sea, lots of independent shops and plenty of other things to do, visit the castle, museum and guildhall, have a trip down the Dart or just stroll round the town

I just love the historic buildings in Totnes and always find myself visiting Totnes when in the UK. It's always enchanting to go back in time and wonderful that the English heritage is preserved. We met up with my cousin and his wife for lunch on my birthday in the town and had a delicious tea & cake before that at a church it was a wonderful place.

Totnes is lovely if you enjoy popping into lots of little shops and cafes. The weekend markets are always worth a visit. If you prefer quieter days, there’s lots of local towns to travel too with quaint tea rooms and castles! If you’re a beach goer, Paignton is about 20th minutes or lots of other lovely bleachers around 30 minutes drive.

Totnes has a laid back atmosphere that buzzes during the day. The town feels very safe. The best way to enjoy this stunning town is to park the car and forget about it. Everything is walkable. Don’t miss the unique shops and eateries. Have lunch on the stunning terrace at The Steam Packet Inn. Avoid the main street at busy traffic times.

Well located hotel, a stones throw from the river Dart and some very pleasant walks, great bar area, good outdoors area, although by the road it was still very good. Room was spacious, bathroom was a decent size with a terrific shower. Bed was comfortable and a decent size. Staff were attentive, cheerful and seamed to multitask with ease, food was great, decently priced, good portions and delivered quickly even though they were busy on both nights. View from the room was not so good, but you can't have everything.

Lovely room with lovely hosts and a delicious, full breakfast. Really, couldn't have asked for more in a stay. The room was close to the town centre, but afield just enough so that it was very, very quiet and removed from the noisy bustle of the High Street. (I actually moved to the Old Forge from another hotel in town, which was quite noisy -- traffic, street noise, etc). Looking forward to another stay at The Old Forge.

The garden was the best feature but the hotel is also around a nice courtyard of period buildings - the breakfast building was impressive. Breakfast was a standard hot buffet. The bagel cafe was great. There's a cinema on site too.
