We could only manage 2 nights as this was the 1st time the children had been away with us without their parents. There is so much to see and do in the area. However, the short duration is an excuse to return.
Close to A1M though a bit farther out of York than we wanted but a straightforward 20m drive there almost direct to a car park. Could have used convenient park and ride. Lovely welcome by owners. Super interesting history, people and grounds. Lovely traditional house, room and breakfast. Hosts offered tea/coffee & cake when we arrived and when we came in the next night at 'no added charge'. It's also nice & close to Tadcaster which is great for John Smith fans!!
Splendid historic hotel, complete with chapel on site. 1 night stay in lovely large king room with very comfortable bed and large spacious bathroom. Had supper which was delicious, and breakfast likewise. Staff were helpful. Clearly a wedding venue as grounds were set up for events too. There is an activity centre on site. The highlight was a walk in the bluebell woods - all out and the floor was carpeted with bluebells - a fabulous sight!
gorgeous hotel, and generally the staff are lovely and willing but clearly need more training. The grounds are lovely. I might think about getting married again to have the woodland wedding experience. Sloppy cleaning and general lack of small details, having said that, it was a great location, the restaurant the food was very good. I would stay again.
A lovely two day stay at the Old Presbytery Guest House . Christine and Chris were wonderful hosts and helped to make our short break in Barkston Ash really enjoyable. The cooked breakfasts were superb , probably the best we’ve had in a B&B or Hotel .
We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at The Old Presbytery Guest House .
The Jackdaw owners are amazingly friendly and helpful. There were ample food supplies left ready for us which was an unexpected bonus. Great place to go if you have small kids. Tadcaster is closed on a Monday and most of Tuesday as well so expect to have to travel out of town if dinning out.
The hotel is in a lovely building in a beautiful location. The rooms are comfortable enough and perfectly adequate. The evening meal and breakfast on the first day were really good. There was a decent selection of malt whisky. Would definitely stay again.
All was fantastic. Staff polite and professional. Dinner was excellent the bar was well stocked. there are plenty areas in the hotel to break out into for privacy. my room was clean bi a little tied in the décor.
Beautiful grounds, friendly owners, nice breakfast.
Secure gate with easy parking.
Good value and much more homely than the usual travel-hotels nearby. We stayed in family room with our own travel cot.
Cosy and comfy accommodation. A great welcome and enough breakfast for double the number of people! Will definitely use the Jackdaw next time I visit family in Tadcaster
The hotel has beautiful grounds and has made clever use of the original building.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food and wine selections were excellent
It used to be a castle so there are aspects of the property that the current hotel has not negatively influenced and is still interesting such as the graveyard.
