Location was perfect for us, Peace and tranquillity were just what we were looking for, and that's what we got 😁 we loved the variety of animals.

Staunton on Wye is a small village and the Portway Inn is situated on its own just outside the village. Other than the biggest Farm Shop I have ever seen, (as big as an average city centre supermarket!), there are no other facilities within the immediate proximity of the Inn. However, the Inn is within easy reach of both Hereford and Hay on Wye. It provides an excellent base for hiking and country walks, or as a central base from which to explore the general area and the Welsh borders.

The area of Staunton on Wye is beautiful but our booking at the Portway Inn through booking.com has been an absolute nightmare!! When we arrived at the Portway Inn after booking it online through booking.com, the place was closed and no one was about to assist us. We had to rapidly find another hotel by ourselves, now late at night, and Portway Inn and booking.com have still charged us?!... Attempts to correct this with them has been a futile nightmare... And we still have not had reimbursement or even acknowledgment?!!

Staff were attentive and friendly. Considering that the hotel is recovering from lockdown and only open for part of the week. The choice of food was very good. The dinner was made with fresh ingredients and well presented. Although I didn't ask specifically I felt confident that any dietary requirements would have been accommodated. Two fairly local draught beers were available . A locally made cider would have been welcomed but perhaps this will appear once business picks up .
The staff were so friendly and lovely and the hotel has a lot of character. Breakfast was amazing (can’t comment on dinner as head chef had covid and kitchen was closed). Pool table was a bonus. Lovely area but quite far away from anything, which wasn’t an issue for us as we were visiting family nearby.
Very clean, large room and comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly in this quirky pub/hotel. The food was tasty, the steak and ale pie was amazing, just what we needed after a long journey.
Breakfast was included and freshly cooked to order, good quality food.
Food was generally (but not always) very good. The staff were as helpful as they knew how and the hotel as pet friendly as most. Hopefully when it gets back up to speed it will be even better but it had barely been re-opened a week when I visited.
The location was good, in between Hay on Wye and Hereford and lovely views. The hotel had a little note in the room offering a choice of pillows and duvets including feather which I thought was a very nice touch.
They were able to store my bike inside so I had peace of mind that it was secure for the night. I had dinner at the hotel and it was excellent and so was the breakfast.
