A charming, characterful town, full of interesting shops, plenty of restaurants to choose from, and pubs galore! Of course the jewel in the crown is the cathedral, which is most impressive. Well worth a visit, but be prepared for the constant traffic jam up Holywell Hill.

St. Albans is a large town/ small city, with a good number of interesting old buildings, including a medieval bell tower, and several museums, including the excellent museum of Roman artefacts on the far side of the large park which drops down from the cathedral. The cathedral is a must if you are into old buildings, with its Norman tower made from Roman bricks among many other features. I was also made very welcome when I joined them for worship. The town has very good pubs, cafes and restaurants, and an extensive street market on certain days. The town itself probably merits a leisurely weekend stay if you enjoy lingering in the cafes, but the Thameslink trains make a day in London very easy, and, if you like old planes, a visit to the De Havilland museum ( no. 84 bus from the town centre ) is well worth it ( rather long walk up the drive from the bus stop, but there is parking at the museum if you take your car. )

St Albans is a very friendly town with people opening doors and being kind and considerate.
We ate in whetherspoons in their Tudor barns and they also had an outdoor area to eat and drink if no rain! The pricing of everything we ate and drank was of good value and was very clean.
There was lots of places we wanted to visit but most of our holiday it rained! But we did visit the shops which are all different and have different price ranges and styles.
St Michaels Manor is a hotel that I have stayed in many times in the past. It is a beautiful Georgian Manor located on Fishpool Street in St Albans. The Cathedral and city centre is a ten minute walk. The food is exceptional and the service is good. The garden complete with ox-bow lake overlooks the park and is beautiful. While we were there the BBC were filming and utilising the hotel as an ideal back drop.
Beautiful property, clean, well presented and welcoming. Located in the lovely town of Saint Albans which is only a few miles down the road from the Harry Potter Studios Tour. Perfect place for anyone who is visiting London/surround area. Viv was an amazing host, and we hope to stay there again when my wife and I visit the HP Studios in the future.
We were fortunate to be upgraded to a beautiful room which was extremely comfortable and pleasant. We had a tasty breakfast one morning in a bright conservatory area. The on-site parking was very convenient (though a little difficult to negotiate when the hotel was full). Many thanks, Ardmore, for the upgrade!
We had a wonderful time at this, perhaps the oldest building in St Albans. The staff were helpful and attentive, the room was comfortable, the hotel is decorated to emphasize its interesting history. The water was piping hot and breakfast was tasty. The parking was convenient.
Spotless, absolutely clean and felt safe! Really easy to find by car and ample spaces to park. Bed was really comfy, loved the luxurious feel of the duvet. Shower was nice and big. Room had lots of space in comparison to other hotels I've stayed at in the Hertfordshire area.
Hotel & Spa beautiful, greeted at both receptions with friendly smiles and happy to help.
Breakfast had so much selection and tasty.
The bar area was also warm and cosy, we had lunch before the spa and drinks in there after dinner.
Everything was good, the breakfast, the staff and the room. The hotel location is perfect with free parking and facilities close to the hotel such us Petrol station, car wash, supermarket, restaurants and shopping stores
Old fashioned hotel with the advantage that they did not rush you out in the morning and parking was easy with the added value they allowed a visitor to park. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The friendliness and professionalism of the staff, and the quality of the food. The location of the hotel was really good, close to the city centre and walking distance of attractions.
A comfortable stay in a good location close to station and city centre. Extremely helpful host.Highly recommended to travelers to St Albans for business or leisure.
