The breakfast was great. Dinner was great the night before. Staff was lovely. Room was clean and comfortable with great view. Our only complaint was we were right above the bar and could hear the music. But we were tired so fell asleep pretty quick.

Roose is really part of Barrow in Furness which has great access to the lake district (30 mins drive). The lake district in late July can be very expensive this was not. You are also only a short drive to the seaside.
Food shops (Morrison & Tesco) were both only a short drive for supplies, with cheap fuel for the car. Plenty of other small options from Aldi to Coop. Loads of pubs and places to eat, dine in or takeaway. This was a good, inexpensive base, if a little depressed.
