The Globe Inn is right in the centre of Chagford. The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food is excellent and so is the beer. The inn was very popular, so there was a good atmosphere, just like a good pub should be.

Wow. Just wow. After some unexpected weather and car troubles, 'Rambler's Rest' couldn't be a more fitting name.
The owners went over and above to ensure we had a terrific stay, the GIGANTIC hot tub with spa shoes and robes was a real treat and the eco friendly toiletries were a very welcome surprise.
Thought and care has gone into every inch of this place and after swearing I'll never go hiking in Dartmoor again, knowing this place exists actually makes it feel not quite so daunting.
It was an emergency booking after our camping gear didn't perform quite as we wanted in the hail and the rain and our boots weren't quite prepared for the amount of bog we encountered so it was a true oasis.
It makes me really happy that in a world of chains that places like this still exist, where passion and personality can shine through and make a trip to the English countryside a true delight, no matter what else is happening with the weather!
Despite feeling quite beaten up by our hiking experiences we were so refreshed the following day after staying here that we ventured out again on waking for a coastal walk instead of scurrying back to the city as we were promising ourselves before we arrived.
Thank you Nikki and Terry for turning 'nightmare' into 'adventure' and making the trip something we could laugh about as soon as the following day.
We'll be back!

A great location for getting onto both north and south moors with beautiful moorland walks in both directions. Car parking at reasonable cost available at the Information Center. East Dart Hotel in Postbridge has a large bar with real fire and serves meals and snacks daily. The Warren House Inn a mile or so east is a must to visit after/ during a walk.

Postbridge is a delightful very small hamlet.
Postbridge is a delightful very small hamlet. It suited me just fine to reach all parts of Dartmoor, east, west, south or north. The drives in both directions are spectacular. There are some super walks direct from Postbridge.

The whole area is very scenic, including the bridge it is named after. The Moor is lovely in general but this is one of the nicest parts of it. The people are friendly and the various hostelries hospitable, especially the Lydgate House Hotel, simply wonderful afternoon cream teas.

This is an excellent location for an outdoor or walking holiday. The scenery on the moor is spectacular, and there are a variety of animals both wild and domestic. The ponies with their foals are particularly charming.

Paul and Rosie made us feel at home and made our stay very comfortable and relaxing. Nothing was too much for them to do for us. Great weekend and will definitely be back in the near future. Well done guys and thanks again, see you soon 👍
The whole experience was spot-on. I loved the location, tucked away in the middle of Dartmoor, and the buildings, and the food and drink provision was a refreshing change from my memory of youth hostels from years ago. The breakfast baps and coffee were smashing (I had imagined it was going to be a sad sausage and single rasher in a burger bap. It was considerably better than this!).
It was also slightly amazing that they had a four bed shared room available at short notice in the middle of the summer. I love it when a plan comes together.
We had a wonderful stay at Lydgate House Hotel. Very friendly hosts and a stunning atmosphere in the middle of the Dartmoor valley. Views are spectacular. Our room was small but comfortable. If any, the mattress would do with an upgrade but everything was clean and tidy. I loved loved the breakfast as it was all homemade and super tasty. Especially the sourdough bread. One of the best breads I have ever tasted in the UK. Keep it up and thanks for hosting us 🙂
The house was absolutely beautiful. Room spacious, very clean and breakfast was excellent. Made to feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble, even to assisting in booking a table at local pub for our evening meal. Location was right in middle of dartmoor with beautiful surroundings. When we next go to the area we will definitely stay here. House just off main road so was very peaceful and easy for parking in own grounds.
It was our first staying in hostel, but fortunately we had a Dartmoor. Everything was sparkling clean and room was very warm. Also we could have a tea at the spacious kitchen, which was great after our long journey. When we came at the hostel it was almost a midnight, so we could not have any chance to see what is outside. But on the next morning we were so amazed with nature of that area
The easiest way to explain this hotel, the location, the food and most certainly the people that run it is this. I have used booking.com for years and places like this do not exist on it. In a word heavenly on every front. Thank you, John and Sarah and your two staff. In the words of Arnie, Asta la vista baby, oh no, I'll be back that's it. Even if you don't like it. Peace.
Breakfast was lovely with locally sourced ingredients. Good choice and filling enough to start the day trekking on the Moors.
Twin room was large and considering the building is from the 1800s, the owners have done well installing a shower and toilet in the room. The towels were soft and fluffy!
Excellent location in Dartmoor National Park.
Very welcoming and friendly hosts. Cozy rooms, tranquil setting, and central Dartmoor location. Excellent breakfast with wide selection to choose from. Enjoyed my stay, and wish I would've stayed an extra night!
Make sure to visit the nearby Warren House Inn for dinner. It's a few miles up the road, and makes for a memorable evening.
Great breakfast and very friendly and accomodating host who even packed us a breakfast to go on the day of our departure when we had to leave very early. The room was very comfortable with an amazing shower. A very nice base of operations to explore Dartmoor.
As a B&B should be: lovely hosts (Alex and Rebecca), and a relaxed atmosphere with freedom to come and go. Enjoyed chatting with other guests around the big breakfast table. Setting in the middle of Dartmoor is great for walkers.
Staying in Postbridge was beautiful, right in the middle of Dartmoor. Beechwood was pretty and comfortable with a lounge to relax in and a friendly dog. We had a lovely tasty breakfast and coffee! Would recommend!
Fabulous home and location in the centre of Dartmoor National Park, the owners were very friendly and had a great sense of humour, breakfast was excellent, highly recommend the place and would return.
Very friendly, helpful staff and a lovely location for a relaxing overnight stay. The room was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Really friendly and helpful hosts. Great location within walking distance of Postbridge, Bellever Forest and Bellever Tor. Excellent breakfast and great value for money.
Great location for access to the Dartmoor National Park. Room was a good size, with a comfortable bed and well equipped (other than rather small screen TV).
