Jerry was extremely welcoming and his home was very comfortable. Perfect for a few days in Westray and very close to Pierowall without being right in the middle of town. I was able to walk to Noup Head from the house which was a bonus. Jerry is a very gifted artist and such a kind host, very interesting to chat to!

The accommodation was absolutely superb. We were amazed at the sizeable bedroom, bathroom, lounge and kitchen area and all the appliances available to us.
We were fortunate enough to have booked for 4 nights and were so sad to leave. We enjoyed being right on the Loch with a lovely view, places to sit outside and relax, and a well recommended place to stay. Well done to Richard and Janet. Thank you so much.

I loved the warm welcome from the hosts themselves.
including food treats, flowers, handmade soap, robe and slippers. my dog was just as important, with his own tray of thoughtful items.
the decor and attention to detail was very my vibe, I do love a place with history.
The information folder was engrossing and helpful for my 3 night stay on Sanday. It’s a very special island
Dave and Jackie’s communication was appreciated and I felt very looked after, especially as I accessed the cottage earlier than expected-what a treat!

You have to switch to a different mode of operation when you get to Westray, everything happens at a slower pace.
Pierowall is the main town on the island with a couple of shops, a hotel and a handful of B&B's (plus some camping). The town is situated around a bay where seals climb up the sloped sea breaks and lounge around, seemingly unbothered by people. It is geographically in the middle(ish) of Westray so makes a good base to explore the island or get to the airport for the world's shortest scheduled commercial flight (about 80 seconds) to Papa Westray where we were lucky enough to see puffins.
One thing of note is the shop in Pierowall. It is a typical island shop selling everytning from silicone sealant to eggs, but it has a bizzarely comprehensive range of gluten-free products available.
All in all there's nothing to not love about Westray and Pierowall. It's a fantastic place wiht a relaxed pace and everyone we met was really friendly.

We loved being on an island.
We loved being on an island. The restaurant at the Pierowall hotel was nice and friendly, though it is a good idea to book and I think the cooking stops at around 8. It was a lovely place to eat every day, except for one when we had excellent fish and chips from the chippy!
And the local museum and shops were all open and very good.
We found everyone very helpful.
